Itinerary
Friday, 16 April 2027: Arrive Rio de Janeiro; Welcome Lunch; Afternoon City Tour (L)
Schedule your arrival into Rio de Janeiro no later than 10:00AM. Most flights from North America arrive early morning. Several staggered timed group transfers from the airport to the hotel will be provided. The tour begins at 1:00PM in the lobby of the hotel with our Welcome Meeting followed by lunch together. We then embark on a walking tour that will introduce us to Rio's central district. Overnight Rio - 3 nights
Saturday, 17 April 2027: Sugar Loaf Mountain; Free Time (B,L)
We spend our morning at Sugar Loaf Mountain, one of Rio's best-known landmarks. A cable car ride to top of Sugar Loaf Mountain offers panoramic views of Copacabana Beach, the Santa Cruz Fortress and more. From high above we see Guanabara Bay, the Rio-Niteroi Bridge and of course Corcovado Mountain in the distance. We share lunch together and the remainder of the afternoon is yours to enjoy as you wish. Consider some beach time or join your Tour Leader on her itinerary.
Sunday, 18 April 2027: Christ the Redeemer Statue; Traditional Brazilian Barbecue Dinner (B,D)
Today we visit Corcovado Mountain, home to the iconic statue of Christ the Redeemer. The journey by cog train takes us through the dense Atlantic rain forest of Tijuca to Christ the Redeemer, named one of the Seven Modern Wonders of the World, which sits 2,300-feet above sea level. This afternoon is free for you to enjoy Rio, perhaps consider a food tour. Your Tour Director can offer suggestions. This evening, we will regroup and walk to a nearby restaurant to enjoy a traditional Brazilian barbecue buffet. You won't go hungry tonight!
Monday, 19 April 2027: Fly to Iguazu Falls; Free Afternoon (B)
It's time to bid farewell to the land of samba and Carnival as we fly from Rio to Iguazu Falls, the Brazilian gate to one of the natural wonders of the world. We will transfer to our hotel just across the border in Puerto Iguazu, Argentina. Enjoy some down time lounging at the hotel or go exploring. The remainder of the day is free. Overnight Iguazu - 3 nights
Tuesday, 20 April 2027: Iguazu Falls - Argentine Side (B)
This morning we'll explore the Argentine side of Iguazu National Park, which houses the majority of the falls. There are a variety of walking trails that take you along the upper and lower falls and marvelous viewpoints are everywhere! Between the upper and lower circuits we can catch the ecological train to the final station where a bridge spans the Iguazu River and reaches the head of The Devil’s Throat, the tallest of all the falls. Be prepared for plenty of spray! Note: The upper circuit has a low degree of difficulty but the lower circuit has many stairs that must be negotiated and requires more physical effort.
Wednesday, 21 April 2027: Iguazu Falls with Boat Ride - Brazilian Side (B)
We venture back to the Brazilian side of Iguazu National Park this morning to meander along the Cataratas Trail enjoying more panoramic views. The catwalk at the end of the trail provides breathtaking views of The Devils' Throat. We see the top of the falls through a panoramic elevator and then experience the power of the falls from below. We'll ride through the jungle in open vehicles and see where orchids, bromeliads and butterflies thrive. We then hop on a boat that takes us right up to the Three Musketeers Falls. You WILL get wet as the boat passes directly through the falls. We return to our hotel on the Argentine side for the night.
Thursday, 22 April 2027: Fly to Buenos Aires; Tango Show (B,D)
We catch a mid-day flight to Buenos Aires. Upon arrival, we will make our way to the hotel. Tonight we'll take part in an Argentine tradition – dinner and a night out at a tango house! Overnight Buenos Aires - 3 nights
Friday, 23 April 2027: City Tour; Teatro Colon; Afternoon Free Time (B,L)
Our day begins with a sightseeing tour of this impressive city. In the early 20th century, Argentina was one of the wealthiest countries in the world. The grand public buildings of Buenos Aires reflect this opulent era. The so-called 'Paris of South America' combines the atmosphere of a European town with the features of a Latin American capital. Some of the city's highlights include the La Boca and Palermo neighborhoods, as well as the Recoleta Cemetery, where former First Lady Evita Peron is buried. We'll also tour the Teatro Colon. The building itself is a work of art, and we'll gain insight into one of the world's best concert venues. The rest of the afternoon is yours to enjoy as you wish.
Saturday, 24 April 2027: Visit the Argentine Countryside and a Local Farm; Farewell Reception (B,L,R)
Today, we head out of Buenos Aires across the Argentine pampas to Estancia Santa Susana. The estancia was named after the owner's wife, Susana Caffrey. This working ranch offers traditional gaucho experiences, including tours, traditional Argentine asado (barbecue), and horse demonstrations. We begin with a tour of the family's original house, which is still on the property and serves as a museum. We enjoy lunch together and the entertainment of Gaucho folkloric music and dancing. At the end of the day, we return to Buenos Aires, where we enjoy our Farewell Reception and recount our adventures of the week.
Sunday, 25 April 2027: Return Home from Buenos Aires -or- Continue on to Patagonia (B)
Sadly, our time in Brazil and Argentina has come to an end. Schedule your return flight home at your convenience, remembering that you will need to depart the hotel 3 hours before your flight departs. Your Tour Director can assist with coordinating ride-sharing to the airport. A Post Tour to Patagonia is also offered. A minimum of 5 participants is required. See details below.
Sunday, April 25, 2027: Main Tour Concludes; Transfer to Airport; Fly to El Calafate (B)
At the conclusion of the main tour, those going on to Patagonia will transfer as a group to the airport. (Flight not included. Travelers must book their own reservation for the connecting flight. Flight specifics can be found under the Flight Information & Important Details tab of the tour. See Arrival & Departure Information.) Upon arrival, we will transfer to our hotel, the Mirador del Lago. The afternoon is yours to enjoy as you wish. Explore the surrounding area or simply relax at the hotel. Overnight El Calafate - 3 nights
Monday, April 26, 2027: Excursion to Perito Moreno Glacier (B, Boxed L)
Perito Morena Glacier is one of the world’s largest active continental glaciers and therefore one of the must-see places in Patagonia. After breakfast, we will depart by car to the Magellan Peninsula, where the entrance of the Los Glaciares National Park is located (approx. 1.5-hour drive). Its centerpiece is the Perito Moreno Glacier which, because of unusually favorable local conditions, is one of the world’s few advancing glaciers. The glacier is a massive field of ice towering 180 feet and reaching more than 3 miles across. Admire breathtaking views of the massive glacier during our walk along its base and watch for the dramatic moment when chunks of ice break off and crash into the waters of the Canal de los Tempanos. Boxed lunches will be provided.
Tuesday, April 27, 2027: Boat Ride to the Spegazzini and Upsala Glaciers (B,Boxed L)
Today, we travel an hour to the port of La Soledad to board a boat that takes us to the Spegazzini and Upsala glaciers. We ply the waters among floating icebergs through Argentino Lake to Spegazzini Glacier. We will stop at Las Vacas Station to trek to the old Settlers’ Station where we will learn about the region’s flora and fauna as well as observe the mystifying spectrum of blue and white light as it emanates from the compressed ice. From here, we navigate the Upsala Canal to the Herminita Peninsula, the limit of the navigation zone permitted by National Park, where we can enjoy incredible panoramic views. Lunch will be provided on board the ship as we make our way through the Los Tempanos Canal. After a full day, we head back to the port and return to our hotel.
Wednesday, April 28, 2027: Return Home (B)
Schedule your flight home from El Calafate (FTE) at your convenience. Flights from FTE typically connect through one of two Buenos Aires airports (EZE or AEP).

Standard health insurance plans often do not cover medical emergencies in other countries. It must cover air-evacuation from the destination as a result of a medical emergency during the trip.
Suggested companies for Emergency Medical/Evacuation Insurance are: Allianz Travel Insurance and World Nomads.
Trip Cancellation / Trip Interruption Insurance is not included in the cost of the tour. It is your responsibility to determine the amount and type of coverage you require to recoup some or all of your travel investment, whether you cancel, are unable to complete the tour, or the tour cannot operate. Section 4.0 of WTT Terms & Conditions explains what will happen to your payments in the unlikely event that your tour cannot operate.
WTT is not licensed to sell travel insurance. You can purchase travel insurance from any provider you choose. To get an idea of rates, please go to NTA Travel Protection Plan (Enter 206063 for the "Tour Operator Location #") or TravelGuard.

Your Responsibilities as a Solo Traveler
As a solo traveler you are responsible for yourself, your possessions, your physical fitness, and all other aspects related to participation in the WTT tour you have chosen. Be sure to read the itinerary closely to better understand the physical requirements necessary for the tour.
WTT tours are not suitable for anyone whose mobility is challenged or compromised. If you struggle with walking, standing or negotiating stairs or if you are in doubt as to your ability to meet the physical activity requirements, you should not sign up for this trip.
What is the Group Size?
You will be introduced to the WTT Tour Leader when you receive your Final Travel Instructions, about 2-3 weeks before the tour begins.
Learn about your fellow travelers after final payment by visiting MyWTT. Room sharing assignments will be listed in the Final Travel Instructions.
What meals are included and how are dietary restrictions accommodated?
Each day of the itinerary lists the included meals for that day (B,L,D,O). When a meal is not included, the WTT Tour Leader will have suggestions for where to eat.
You do not have to dine alone unless it is your personal choice. You'll most likely be dining with new acquaintances you've made, or you can join the Tour Leader.
Dietary Restrictions on International Tours: WTT has limited to no control over food selections or variety from meal-to-meal, especially at hotels. While we do our best to accommodate dietary requests and ensure variety of options, we cannot guarantee either.
What clothing and items should I pack for this trip?
For This Trip You Will Need—
- Insect repellent
- Smart-casual wear if you'd like to dress up a bit for dinners
- Inexpensive rain poncho or waterproof jacket
- Swimsuit
- Pack a limited amount of comfortable, casual clothing that layer and coordinate. Your fellow travelers will not mind or even notice – seeing you in the same clothing.
- Bring what you need to get a good night's sleep, such as ear plugs, white noise generator, sleeping pills, etc. Unfamiliar noises of all types can disrupt your rest.
- Bring only two pairs of everyday shoes: one pair of well-broken-in walking shoes, and a second pair that could do double-duty as a walking shoe or a slightly dressy shoe.
- Pare down your beauty regimen to the bare minimum and always pack travel-sized toiletries.
- Pack medication in your carry-on and pack only as much as needed for the duration of your tour plus a few extra days as a precaution.
What are the luggage restrictions for this tour?
On every WTT tour, our policies regarding luggage restrictions are driven by the physical space limitations of the vehicles we use, the requirement that all travelers be able to manage their own belongings without assistance and the restrictions imposed by other forms of transportation such as small planes
- It is best to travel as lightly as possible. Most travelers regret when they have packed too much.
- Bring only one suitcase that you can easily manage by yourself, plus 1 carry-on. The small or medium-size in a 3-piece luggage set easily meets this requirement and should be plenty roomy for this length of trip.
- There are luggage weight restrictions on the inter-country flights you will take. You are responsible for any extra fees incurred for excess baggage. At the time of posting, the most restrictive weight allowance is 15kg (about 33 lbs).
- You are responsible for managing your own belongings. We expect you to take your belongings from the coach to your room and to bring it back to the coach on days we change hotels. We do not provide luggage pulls; they are not safe and are inconvenient.
- Steps exist at most hotel entrances. On occasion the coach must unload passengers and luggage some distance from the hotel entrance.
- If you carry a purse, it should be able to be worn across your body, hands-free. A money belt is also an option.
- Consider limiting jewelry worn while on tour to avoid petty theft.
How much money should I bring on this tour?
Only you can determine the optimum amount of cash to take on tour. When budgeting for out-of-pocket expenses, there are several aspects to consider: the number of meals you are responsible for, the amount of money you like to have on-hand for snacks and drinks, your individual shopping interests and habits, and cash for tipping (see tipping guidelines below).
- Notify your credit card issuer that you will be traveling and provide dates of travel.
- Brazil's official currency is the Real(R$). Argentina's official currency is the Argentine Peso (ARS).
- Credit cards are widely accepted in most destinations. Many banks charge a currency exchange fee (anywhere from 3%-10%) on most transactions. Check with your bank. There are credit cards that impose no foreign transaction fees.
- Debit cards can be useful for cash advances. ATMs are typically the best way of obtaining cash as they are found in most airports and big cities and tourist areas. However, there are no guarantees that your credit or debit cards will actually work overseas. Some foreign countries limit the amount that can be withdrawn daily. You must know your PIN number for your debit card to use ATMs. Always use caution when withdrawing money.
- Do not rely on credit or debit cards as your only source of money.
- It is easier to exchange money at the airport upon arrival. You will want to keep smaller denominations of cash on hand for taxis, small purchases, etc.
- In Iguazu, vendors accept multiple currencies (Brazilian Real, US Dollars & Argentine Pesos).
- Argentinian Pesos are hard to find and the exchange rate is not good. Businesses take USD, but only if they are new, not torn or written on, Brazilian Reals and Pesos. Bring smaller bills so you don't get too much change in local currency.
What are the tipping guidelines for this tour?
Tips to local guides during your tour have already been paid on your behalf.
- You are responsible for tipping wait-staff, porters, or other individuals who provide a service to you at the hotel or other public locations.
- In Brazil restaurants often include a 10% service charge on your bill. You can round up any taxi rides to the next whole number. In hotels, small tips (R$5 to R$10) for the bellhop and the maid (R$5 per day) are appreciated.
- In Argentina, 10-15% tip is customary at restaurants. No tipping is necessary for taxis and 1 peso per bag is customary for luggage handling.
- You may want to tip your WTT Tour Director for an outstanding job. The amount is entirely a personal preference. If you'd like a guideline, consider $8-$10 per day.
