Q: I’m ready to travel. How does this work?

It’s as simple as 1) choose a tour, 2) show up at the stated time for the Welcome Meeting and 3) let your Tour Leader handle things while you enjoy yourself! Coming solo? Many of the women on your tour will be traveling solo, and some will be taking their first WTT tour, just like you. Most tours have two rooming options - share a room with another solo traveler or pay additional to have a room to yourself. You’ll be able to communicate with your fellow travelers well in advance of traveling and will receive detailed “Final Travel Instructions” about 2 weeks before the tour begins. If you have questions at any time, reach out to the in-office staff member assigned to your tour. Finally, you’re never truly alone on a WTT tour. We send one of our Tour Leader staff on every tour. She has been through extensive training in group dynamics, tour logistics and is there to help you have a good experience. But honestly, you’ll spend more time making new friends and running around with them than you will hanging with the Tour Leader.

Q: Is it normal to feel anxious about traveling with women I don’t know?

Heck, yea. That’s human nature. But what are you really worried about? Most women are worried they will be excluded because the think everyone will already know each other. This is never the case on a WTT tour. On every WTT tour everyone makes new acquaintances. Why? Because every tour is made up of a different group of women, most who came solo like you. You will never travel with the same exact group of women; therefore, everyone is in the same situation at every Welcome Meeting – meeting women they don’t know. This dynamic makes WTT tours unique and very inclusive. By the conclusion of the Welcome Meeting those anxious feelings will be long gone. You’ll have met everyone and over the coming days continue to discover things you have in common. But if the above does not ease your concerns, then we encourage you to have an exit strategy. For example, choose a US tour and if you don’t like it, call Uber and catch the next flight home. Many first-time travelers have shared with us – after the tour concluded – that they had an exit strategy just in case they didn’t feel comfortable. FACT: No woman has ever left a WTT tour early because she didn’t like any of the women on her tour. Rather, we regularly hear wonderful stories of new friendships made on every tour.

What basic level of travel experience/skills do I need to do this?

Traveling solo requires you to have a basic level of comfort doing the following: Manage your own belongings. No one else will be able to assist you, including the Tour Leader. Each woman will have her own belongings to carry. Learning how to pack well is a skill that if you don&rsquo;t already know the tricks, we can help you learn. Get to the starting point of the tour by yourself. This can be intimidating for some women, but there is nothing to be scared about. All airports have signage in English, no matter where in the world you go. For foreign tours, most flights funnel through the same connection city, meaning you&rsquo;ll likely arrive to the destination with other women on your tour. Finally, clear transfer instructions from the airport to the starting point of the tour (generally at the hotel) are provided in advance of departure so you know what to expect. Keep up with the pace of the group. We do a lot of walking on all our tours; some are more walking intensive than others. We don&rsquo;t walk fast, but we are often out and about for a couple hours at a time per activity. If you are a slow walker, or have walking issues, you will not be able to participate in the activity if you cannot handle the walking. Women who use a cane or walker will not be able to keep up on even our most leisurely tours and therefore cannot travel with WTT. Get along with others. You will be traveling with women who come from a wide variety of professional and personal backgrounds, from different parts of the US and sometimes other countries, and of different ages, marital statuses, etc. Some of the women will be first-time travelers like you, and just as anxious about fitting in and wondering if they&rsquo;ll make a friend. We always practice the golden rule on WTT tours &ndash; treat others as you would have them treat you. In other words, be a pleasant person and others will be pleasant in return.

What kind of women travel solo?

Ask yourself why you are considering traveling solo on a women-only escorted tour. Your reasons are identical to the reasons other women do this. Women Traveling Together was founded by a businesswoman whose husband and friends did not share her desire to go rafting on the Colorado River. She met plenty of women with travel dreams, but none wanted to go rafting. One day she realized that she and all these other women had the same problem but would never be travel companions . Her solution was to create a company exclusively for women traveling solo and offer a wide variety of destinations with varying activity levels. Women with the same travel interests would be attracted to the same tour, immediately sharing a common foundation upon which to build new friendships around a shared travel experience.

How are meals and free time handled if I don’t know anyone?

We know this is a major concern of women traveling solo for the first time. Despite our reassurances that they&rsquo;ll make friends and have someone (or lots of someones) to do things with and dine with, you will always have the option to hang out with the Tour Leader during free time and at meals. The Tour Leader will have a plan for free time and will invite anyone who wants to join her. You can accompany her. She will have a place to eat picked out and will invite anyone who wants to join her. You can accompany her.   Let&rsquo;s say your concern is the opposite. You want to be by yourself during free time and do your own thing for a meal. Go for it. It&rsquo;s your vacation.  We all need some me-time!

Question 6

What if I sign up and change my mind, or something happens and I can’t go?

Accepted Answer

It is common to be anxious about doing something new, but oh the rewards for following through! But, in the event you change your mind or something comes up, the cancellation terms are consistent from tour to tour. Every tour gives you 3 days to cancel without any financial penalty if you change your mind immediately after we confirm you are on the tour. The date your cancel-without-penalty ends will be listed on your Reservation Confirmation email. Thereafter, each tour has explicit dates upon which specific cancellation penalties will be enforced. Trip Cancellation Insurance is your responsibility to acquire. No one particularly likes to buy trip insurance, thinking they&rsquo;ll never use it, but the unexpected often happens at the most inconvenient time. The most distressing part of our job is getting a phone call from a woman who must cancel and did not take travel insurance. Did you know that the number one reason for last-minute cancellations is medical &ndash; whether an accident of some sort, a family member&rsquo;s illness/death, or an unexpected diagnosis requiring immediate medical intervention. We cannot and do not make exceptions to our cancellation terms, no matter what the reason for cancellation. Please protect your travel investment.

Why should I travel with Women Traveling Together?

We believe the primary reason to travel with WTT is our consistency of experience from tour to tour and our continuous striving for the best tour experience every time.  Women Traveling Together is a Tour Operator. We design the tours we sell. We train our own Tour Leaders and send them to represent your interests 24/7 when interfacing with local guides, hotels, drivers, etc. and to solve problems that inevitably occur. Our tours are inclusive, fun experiences - which explains why Women Traveling Together has more travelers who have taken 10 tours with WTT than other women-only groups have total travelers. There are other options out there, but most purchase off-the shelf itineraries, label them as women-only, and pass them off as their own creation. Because of this, these other women-only groups have little to no control over the consistency of service from tour to tour. Women who now travel with WTT - after a less-than-satisfying experience elsewhere - most frequently mention that other women-only groups do nothing to address mean-girl behavior when it occurs, offer no guidance for free time and meals on your own, and do not communicate much, or at all, once they have your money. Women Traveling Together is, and has been, the only Tour Operator member of the National Tour Association exclusively offering women-only tours since we met the stringent qualifications for membership in 2001.
