Itinerary
Monday, 10 May 2027: Arrive Las Vegas; Welcome Reception (R)
Schedule your arrival no later than 2:30pm. Take local transportation to the hotel. The tour begins at 4:30pm in the lobby of our hotel to make introductions, discuss our upcoming adventure and get acquainted over a Welcome Reception. Overnight Las Vegas - 1 night
Tuesday, 11 May 2027: Fly to Lee's Ferry; Put-in (B,L,D)
The day begins very early. Our adventure takes us on a small chartered plane from Las Vegas to Page, Arizona, followed by a shuttle ride to Lee's Ferry. At this remote launch point — the only vehicle access to the river for hundreds of miles — we'll meet our guides and launch in motorized J-rig rafts into the clear, cold waters flowing from Glen Canyon Dam. The journey starts gently as we ease into river life, passing under the Navajo Bridge which looms 467 feet overhead. Each day's schedule is flexible as our guides navigate conditions. We'll run a few exciting rapids as the canyon walls gradually rise around us. Camp is typically made on the sandy banks in this section. The group will learn how to set up tents as dinner is prepared. If we have clear skies, you may choose to sleep under a blanket of stars. Overnight Camping - 5 nights
Wednesday, 12 May 2027: Rafting the Colorado River - Marble Canyon (B,L,D)
Waking to the sound of the river, we'll enjoy fresh coffee and breakfast before breaking camp. Today our rafts plunge deeper into Marble Canyon, where towering limestone walls create a spectacular corridor. The rapids intensify. A possible highlight stop is Redwall Cavern, an enormous amphitheater carved into the limestone where we can explore and play. Or maybe we'll explore Vasey's Paradise - an oasis with lush, green areas with waterfalls fed by a spring. Activities will be adapted to the flow of the river and the group members' abilities and interests. Those with the energy to roam far and climb high can do so at some of the stops we will make, while those who want a more leisurely experience can simply relax riverside. The geology becomes increasingly dramatic as we pass through layers representing hundreds of millions of years of Earth's history. Once we set up camp tonight, we'll enjoy dinner together.
Thursday, 13 May 2027: Rafting the Colorado River - Granite Rapids - Big Waves! (B,L,D)
As we continue down the Colorado, see the full array of Grand Canyon rock formations, from the horizontal strata to the ancient Vishnu Schist and Zoroaster Granite. This day often features the thrilling whitewater of Granite Rapid, known for its powerful waves. This rapid can feel like a sudden, breathtaking drop as the river narrows and crashes against rock formations. Once settled at our riverside campsite, consider a short hike or light stretching before we share dinner together and see the stars!
Friday, 14 May 2027: Rafting the Colorado River - Deep Creek Falls Hike (B,L,D)
Wake up to the smell of coffee and the sound of the babbling river. Today we hope to venture into hidden side canyons and navigate rapids that get our hearts pumping. Short hikes lead to stunning rewards—imagine cooling off beneath the cascading waters, or taking in expansive views from scenic overlooks. We'll keep our eyes peeled for big horn sheep on the banks, and tackle more thrilling rapids in the afternoon. When evening arrives, dinner and our bed rolls will be well-earned, but try to stay awake to see if you can spot the Milky Way!
Saturday, 15 May 2027: Rafting the Colorado River - Havasu Canyon (B,L,D)
This day often features one of the trip's anticipated highlights—a visit to the brilliant pools of Havasu Canyon. After soaking in this desert oasis, we'll return to the river to navigate more of the Colorado's exhilarating rapids. At this point in the tour setting up camp is second nature, leaving more time to relax along the sandy shoreline as the sun sets. We can swap stories at camp or simply listen to the timeless echo of the canyon walls.
Sunday, 16 May 2027: Rafting the Colorado River; Bar 10 Ranch; Return to Las Vegas (B,L,D)
Our final morning on the river offers one last chance to soak in the remaining stretch of the Colorado. At the take-out point, a helicopter will pick us up in small groups for spectacular flights up and out of the canyon. We'll lift off from Whitmore Wash and climb nearly 3,000 feet from the river to the rim in just 5-10 minutes. Gain a new perspective on the Grand Canyon as the massive walls that towered above now drop away beneath the helicopter, revealing the incredible scale of this geological wonder before landing at Bar 10 Ranch. At this working cattle ranch, there will be time to wash up and enjoy lunch together. This is also time to reflect on our journey and bid farewell to our river guides before returning to Las Vegas. We'll enjoy a Farewell Dinner together and recount our adventures of the past week. Overnight Las Vegas - 1 night
Monday, 17 May 2027: Return Home from Las Vegas (B)
Sadly, our time together has come to an end. Make your return flight at your convenience. Based on the departure time you provide WTT, your Tour Leader can assist with organizing travelers into small groups so you can ride-share to the airport if you wish.

What do others say about this tour and traveling with WTT?
How Does Room Sharing Work?
On the Reservation Form there are 3 choices regarding room-sharing.
Note: Certain room-types may be unavailable at the time you make your reservation. If a room-type is unavailable the choice will be greyed out.
- Select "Yes, I want to share a room" and WTT will assign you a roommate when Final Travel Instructions are sent.
- You can specify a roommate by entering her name where indicated. If your named roommate is not on the tour, for any reason, WTT will assign you a roommate unless you pay to have your own room, if available.
- Select "No, I do not wish to share a room" if you want to have your own room. Additional costs apply.
- All shared rooms have 2 beds
- All shared rooms are non-smoking
- No special requests about your roommate can be accommodated
- See "Frequently Asked Questions" TAB for more details
How Active is this Tour?
- 15% Easy
- 65% Moderate (getting on/off slippery boats, setting up camp, hiking on uneven terrain)
- 20% Strenuous (distance, exposure to extreme heat or cold, holding on securely in whitewater)
Much of the expedition on the Colorado River will be floating at a leisurely pace, however rapids range from Class III to V. You must have enough strength and agility to hold on securely in the whitewater. While on the river, travelers will be camping and are expected to set up their own tents (with instruction). You must be able to carry your own gear from rafts to campsites and help with community gear. All guests will be required to wear our Coast Guard approved whitewater life jacket (PFD) at all times while on the water.
Your Responsibilities as a Solo Traveler
As a solo traveler you are responsible for yourself, your possessions, your physical fitness, and all other aspects related to participation in the WTT tour you have chosen. Be sure to read the itinerary closely to better understand the physical requirements necessary for the tour.
WTT tours are not suitable for anyone whose mobility is challenged or compromised. If you struggle with walking, standing or negotiating stairs or if you are in doubt as to your ability to meet the physical activity requirements, you should not sign up for this trip.
What is the Group Size?
You will be introduced to the WTT Tour Leader when you receive your Final Travel Instructions, about 2-3 weeks before the tour begins.
Learn about your fellow travelers after final payment by visiting MyWTT. Room sharing assignments will be listed in the Final Travel Instructions.
What meals are included and how are dietary restrictions accommodated?
Each day of the itinerary lists the included meals for that day (B,L,D,O=Other). When a meal is not included, the WTT Tour Leader will have suggestions for where to eat.
You do not have to dine alone unless it is your personal choice. You'll most likely be dining with new acquaintances you've made, or you can join the Tour Leader.
Dietary Restrictions: Vegetarian and gluten-free dietary restrictions can be accommodated on this tour with limited selections.
What clothing and items should I pack for this trip?
In general the temperature, rainfall and humidity levels vary based on the time of the year. We suggest you monitor weather apps leading up to the time you depart for the most current information. Although you’ll be traveling to a desert environment, be prepared for various weather conditions. Weather in this part of the country can be unpredictable.
Good Packing Habits—
- ALL camping gear is supplied by the expedition company; all you need to pack is your personal gear.
- For any outdoor adventure, it is important to pack the right gear. Some say there is no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing.
- Pack as little as possible; whatever you bring travels in your dry bag on the rafts.
For the Trip You Will Need—
- Quick-drying, durable, comfortable clothing that layers easily. Anything you bring on the river will get wet and sandy.
- Waterproof rain jacket
- Swimsuit, preferably two-piece.
- Water shoes with good traction, such as Keen or Teva brand.
- Two refillable water bottles (preferably with a carabiner to clip to a bag)
- Long-sleeve shirt for sun protection
- Sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellant and lip balm
- Small flashlight
- Small container of bio-degradable soap (sold at sports/outdoor stores)
- Comfortable t-shirts and yoga pants or sweats to wear in camp
- Fleece or sweatshirt and sweatpants for cool mornings
- Cash for a tip to be shared among the river guides. Budget $350- $400.
You May Also Want—
- Nylon bath "scrubbie" packed in a Zip-loc bag
- Body wipes
- Extra swimsuit
- Hand towel and beach towel
- Travel-sized pillow
- Rain pants (jacket and pants) or poncho
- Hiking shoes
- Small battery power bank for your electronic devices
- Personal water hydration backpack, such as CamelBak or Platypus, instead of water bottles
- Bring what you need to get a good night's sleep, such as ear plugs, sleeping pills, etc. Unfamiliar noises of all types can disrupt your rest.
Packing Dry Bags for the river—
You will receive 2 dry bags for individual use.
Your Personal Dry Bag—
This large water-resistant bag is for the things you only need while in camp. Think of it as your checked luggage at the airport. Once packed, it will be strapped down on one of the rafts for the day. Pack all items in a duffle bag for easier access. Your personal bag is likely to include: (provided) camping equipment, clothing and personal toiletries.
Ditty Bag—
This smaller dry bag is intended to carry all those little things you would like to have with you during the day on the river. This bag is like your purse. You will clip it onto a raft near you and you can access it anytime. Items for your ditty bag might include: camera, medications, sun-block, lip balm, hat, etc. Although these bags are water resistant, we advise using Ziploc bags as an extra measure of caution to protect items that can’t get wet.
Calls of Nature
Throughout the day, guides schedule brief shore stops for restroom needs. Following park regulations, guests wade into calm sections of the river to discreetly relieve themselves (#1) in the naturally flowing current. A "port a-potty" system is set up each evening at camp for solid waste only. Your body will quickly adjust to the rhythm of the trip.
What are the luggage restrictions for this tour?
On every WTT tour, our policies regarding luggage restrictions are driven by the physical space limitations of our transportation and the requirement that all travelers be able to manage their own luggage.
- We STRONGLY RECOMMEND you bring a soft duffle bag (pack it empty in your suitcase) to contain your things while on the river. You will be provided a “dry bag” to put your duffle bag/personal things in. If you do not have a duffle bag, bring a large trash bag or laundry bag/pillowcase to hold your belongings. This bag should be no more than 20lbs.
- All suitcases will be left in secure storage while you are on the river. Absolutely no suitcases can be brought on the river. Be sure to have your WTT luggage tag on the items you will place in secure storage.
- There is no electricity on the river so charge your electronic devices and leave the charger (and your cell phone) behind in your suitcase, along with any nicer travel clothing.
What are the health recommendations for this tour?
What are the phone and internet recommendations for this tour?
There is no cell phone coverage while on the river. If friends or family need to reach you in case of emergency, they can leave a message with the expedition company and it will do its best to relay the message to the river guides. Your Program Manager can provide this information to you as the tour approaches.
How much money should I bring on this tour?
Only you can determine the optimum amount of cash to take on tour. When budgeting for out-of-pocket expenses, there are several aspects to consider: the number of meals you are responsible for, the amount of money you like to have on-hand for snacks and drinks, and your individual shopping interests and habits. More and more, restaurants are no longer allowing groups to split the bill by charging to multiple credit cards. Therefore, you might want to have cash-on-hand for meals on your own when dining with others in the group.
What are the tipping guidelines for this tour?
Each traveler is responsible for:
- Tipping the river guides. The guides work hard to provide you an outstanding experience. An appropriate amount is somewhere between $350-$400, depending on the level of service you were provided. Tips should be provided in cash and your tip contribution will be pooled and shared among all the river guides.
- Tipping taxi drivers, waitstaff, porters, or other individuals who provide a service to you at the hotel, or other public locations.
- Additionally, you may want to tip your WTT Tour Leader for an outstanding job. The amount is entirely a personal preference. If you'd like a guideline, consider $8 - $10 per day.
What are some recommended books for learning about or exploring destinations?
What other Additional Information do I need to know?
- You must fit into the provided life jacket (max: 52" chest size)
- You must be able to securely grip handholds while running the rapids
- You must be able to climb on and off the rafts
- You must have sure footing to navigate uneven terrain on walks and in camp
- Discreet toileting facilities are set up each evening and can be set up during the day should the need arise.
