Itinerary
Tuesday, 13 July 2027: Arrive Paris; Afternoon Orientation Walking Tour (D)
Schedule your arrival into Paris no later than 1:00pm and take local transportation (or purchase an optional private transfer) to the hotel. The tour begins at 3:30pm in the lobby of the hotel. We will make introductions before heading out for a leisurely walkabout in the vicinity of our hotel led by your Tour Leader to get oriented. This evening we have dinner together to get better acquainted and discuss our upcoming adventure. Overnight Paris - 2 nights
Wednesday, 14 July 2027: Hop-On Hop-Off City Tour (B)
Whether you have been to Paris before, or this is the very first time, taking a hop-on hop-off bus tour around Paris gives you easy access to all the city's main attractions, including the Louvre, Palais Garnier, Musée d’Orsay, Norte Dame Cathedral, Arc de Triomphe, and the iconic Eiffel Tower. You may get off at any of the stops to explore further if you wish. This is a great way to get around and spend as little or as much time as you want at the different iconic stops. With the open-top, double-decker Big Bus, you get the added bonus of an excellent vantage point for panoramic views. Enjoy free time this afternoon.
Thursday, 15 July 2027: Travel to Dijon; Evening Boarding & Dinner (B,D)
We bid au revoir to Paris and head southeast to the city of Dijon. This historic capital of the Burgundy region is the birthplace of mustard! The quaint city of Dijon is explored easily on foot. Consider walking along the Owl's Trail. This walking trail is marked by brass ground plates with a small owl emblem, noting the city's various points of interest such as Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy, the Church of Notre-Dame of Dijon, and other sites. Later this afternoon, we board our floating hotel. Enjoy a welcome cocktail and get settled in. Dinner will be served onboard. One of the highlights of this cruise is the outstanding cuisine. We indulge in a variety of French regional dishes each day. Overnight MS Daniele - 6 nights
Friday, 16 July 2027: Grand Crus Wine Route; Cruise to Petit-Ouges (B,L,D)
Today is about relaxation and enjoying a slower pace as we ply the waterways. Our first stop is along the Grand Crus wine route for a wine tasting. This famous route passes some of the most well known vineyards of Burgundy. The Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines are said to be exceptional in this region. We then continue our journey with lunch on board while floating past the magnificent lush landscapes of the Saône Valley. This afternoon, we arrive at the small village of Petit-Ouges. Consider going on land to discover the "Path of the Three Wash Houses". This 2.5-mile, easy to navigate, walking path reveals the village's history by leading to three different historic wash houses with distinct architectural styles. We return to the boat and have dinner together.
Saturday, 17 July 2027: Cruise to Saint-Jean-de-Losne (B,L,D)
By now, we've adapted to the gentle, slow pace of life on board the barge. Today is spent on the water as we cruise at an unhurried pace along the Burgundy canal towards Saint-Jean-de-Losne. Admire the intimate scenery of poplar trees lining the canal, nearby meadows, stone locks, and of course, vineyards. Enjoy time on board relaxing, playing board games, and connecting over lunch and perhaps a glass of wine. This evening we arrive in Saint-Jean-de-Losne.
Sunday, 18 July 2027: Saint-Jean-de-Losne; Cruise to Dole (B,L,D)
This morning begins with a visit of Saint-Jean-de-Losne. This historic town is at the crossroads of the Saône River, the Burgundy Canal and the Rhine Rhône Canal making a popular destination for river cruises. Once a major trading hub, the village's maritime history is apparent through the traces of old trading warehouses lining the canals, locks still in operation and it's quays. Consider visiting the Batallerie Musuem to learn why this town has been so important to commerce. The afternoon will be spent cruising towards the town of Dole, a beautiful hillside town. Calm waters take us through the locks and past riverside villages. As the day light softens it may be time for some great photos before having dinner together.
Monday, 19 July 2027: Dole Walking Tour; Cruise to Ranchot (B,L,D)
Today we enjoy a walking tour of Dole. The tour takes us along the "trail of the Chat Perche" (The Perched Cat). This walking trail is marked by small bronze cat sculptures through old town, telling the town's history. The trail celebrates the famous writer, Marcel Aymé, who grew up here. The town and the surrounding region often served as back drops to his novels. After lunch onboard, we cruise toward Ranchot. Bicycles are available, perhaps you'd like to ride on the scenic bike path that runs parallel to our route along the canal.
Tuesday, 20 July 2027: Visit to Saline Royale Salt Factory; Group Dinner (B,L,D)
Spend the morning cruising along the peaceful waterway and relaxing on board. This afternoon we visit Arc-et-Senans. Here, we'll tour the Saline Royale (Royal Salt Works). This historical complex, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was built between 1775 and 1779 in a unique semi-circular shape and served as both the workplace and home for the salt workers of the era. This is one of the few examples of architecture from the early Industrial Age. The day concludes with our dinner together onboard.
Wednesday, 21 July 2027: Disembark in Besancon; Transfer back to Paris; Farewell Dinner (B,D)
Enjoy one last breakfast buffet this morning before disembarking and making our way back to Paris. We arrive in time to explore any last minute sites in Paris before we enjoy our Farewell Dinner together and recount our adventures of the week. Overnight Paris - 1 night
Thursday, 22 July 2027: Return Home from Paris (B)
Sadly, our time together has come to an end. Schedule your departure at your convenience. Based on the departure time you provide WTT, your Tour Leader can assist with organizing travelers into small groups so you can ride-share to the airport if you wish.
WTT has chartered the MS Daniele and this departure will be private to WTT.

Insurance Reminder
Mandatory Emergency Medical/Evacuation Insurance is required to take this trip and is not included in the cost of the tour.
Standard health insurance plans often do not cover medical emergencies in other countries. As a solo traveler, insurance is essential to provide support and care coordination in the event of a medical emergency. It must cover air-evacuation from the destination as a result of a medical emergency during the trip.
Suggested companies for Emergency Medical/Evacuation Insurance are: Allianz Travel Insurance and World Nomads.
Trip Cancellation / Trip Interruption Insurance is not included in the cost of the tour. It is your responsibility to determine the amount and type of coverage you require to recoup some or all of your travel investment, whether you cancel, are unable to complete the tour, or the tour cannot operate. Section 4.0 of WTT Terms & Conditions explains what will happen to your payments in the unlikely event that your tour cannot operate. You can purchase travel insurance from any provider you choose. To get an idea of rates, please go to NTA Travel Protection Plan (Enter 206063 for the "Tour Operator Location #") or TravelGuard.

What do others say about this tour and traveling with WTT?
How Does Room Sharing Work?
On the Reservation Form there are 3 choices regarding room-sharing.
Note: Certain room-types may be unavailable at the time you make your reservation. If a room-type is unavailable the choice will be greyed out.
- Select "Yes, I want to share a room" and WTT will assign you a roommate when Final Travel Instructions are sent.
- You can specify a roommate by entering her name where indicated. If your named roommate is not on the tour, for any reason, WTT will assign you a roommate unless you pay to have your own room, if available.
- Select "No, I do not wish to share a room" if you want to have your own room. Additional costs apply.
- All shared rooms have 2 beds
- All shared rooms are non-smoking
- No special requests about your roommate can be accommodated
- See "Frequently Asked Questions" TAB for more details
How Active is this Tour?

The activities on this tour are rated as follows:
- 75% Easy
- 25% Moderate (walking and standing for several hours on unpaved or cobblestone streets)

What is the Group Size?
You will be introduced to the WTT Tour Leader when you receive your Final Travel Instructions, about 2-3 weeks before the tour begins.
Learn about your fellow travelers after final payment by visiting MyWTT. Room sharing assignments will be listed in the Final Travel Instructions.
What meals are included and how are dietary restrictions accommodated?
Each day of the itinerary lists the included meals for that day (B,L,D,O=Other). When a meal is not included, the WTT Tour Leader will have suggestions for where to eat.
You do not have to dine alone unless it is your personal choice. You'll most likely be dining with new acquaintances you've made, or you can join the Tour Leader.
Dietary Restrictions on International Tours: WTT has limited to no control over food selections or variety from meal-to-meal, especially at hotels. While we do our best to accommodate dietary restrictions and ensure variety of options, we cannot guarantee either.
What clothing and items should I pack for this trip?
In general the temperature, rainfall and humidity levels vary based on the time of the year. We suggest you monitor weather apps leading up to the time you depart for the most current information.
For This Trip You May Want—
- Shoes that are comfortable for walking
- Smart-casual wear if you'd like to dress up a bit for dinners, particularly on gala night
- Sunglasses and sunscreen—this is the driest and sunniest part of the year
- Lightweight jacket/sweater for the cool mornings and evenings
- Inexpensive rain poncho or travel umbrella, just in case
- Swimsuit—there is a hot tub aboard ship
Good Packing Habits—
- Bring what you need to get a good night's sleep, such as ear plugs, white noise generator, sleeping aids, etc. Unfamiliar noises of all types can disrupt your rest.
- Pack a limited amount of comfortable, casual clothing that layer and coordinate. Your fellow travelers will not mind or even notice – seeing you in the same clothing.
- Bring only two pairs of everyday shoes: one pair of well-broken-in walking shoes, and a second pair that could do double-duty as a walking shoe or a slightly dressy shoe.
- Pare down your beauty regimen to the bare minimum and always pack travel-sized toiletries.
- Pack medication in your carry-on and pack only as much as needed for the duration of your tour plus a few extra days as a precaution.
What are the luggage restrictions for this tour?
On every WTT tour, our policies regarding luggage restrictions are driven by the physical space limitations of the vehicles we use, the requirement that all travelers be able to manage their own belongings without assistance, and the restrictions imposed by other forms of transportation such as boats
- It is best to travel as lightly as possible. Most travelers regret when they have packed too much.
- We strongly recommend you bring only one suitcase no larger than 26 inches on the longest side, plus 1 carry-on, which will make it easier to manage your belongings.
- The cabins onboard the MS Daniele have limited storage space.
- You are responsible for managing your own belongings. We expect you to take your belongings from the hotel to the boat and from the boat to the hotel. We do not provide luggage pulls; they are not safe and are inconvenient.
What are the phone and internet recommendations for this tour?
- You should understand what your current cell phone plan includes in terms of data and minutes. Some, like certain T-Mobile plans, include an international package.
- Contact your cell phone service provider before departing about adding an international calling plan. Most carriers have flat daily rates which will allow your US-based phone to be functional upon arrival in a foreign country.
- Managing data while traveling internationally is important. Using WiFi when available and communicating through apps like What's App help you manage data usage while traveling.
- Learn how to make an international call BEFORE you leave. Consult your cell provider and check out the website www.HowtoCallAbroad.com.
What are the electricity requirements for this tour?
Europe operates on 220V or 230V, which differs from most of North America. Most of today's electronics (laptops, phone chargers etc.) are multi-voltage and will work worldwide automatically without a transformer, but will require a standard European plug adapter. Do not bring any heating appliances (curling iron, flat iron, etc) unless they are specifically rated as multi-voltage.
How much money should I bring on this tour?
Only you can determine the optimum amount of cash to take on tour. When budgeting for out-of-pocket expenses, there are several aspects to consider: the number of meals you are responsible for, your individual shopping interests, and cash for tipping.
- France's official currency is the Euro.
- Notify your credit card issuer that you will be traveling and provide dates of travel.
- Credit cards are widely accepted in most destinations. Many cards charge a foreign-transaction fee which adds 3% or more on each purchase. Be sure to investigate your card of choice as there are many credit cards that impose no foreign transaction fees and are better for international travel.
- If a merchant gives you the choice between making your transaction in USD or the local currency, always choose the local currency to avoid dynamic currency conversion which includes a conversion fee.
- Debit cards can be useful for cash advances. ATMs are typically the best way of obtaining cash as they are found in most airports and big cities and tourist areas. Be judicious about where you use your debit card to minimize fees on cash withdrawals. ATMS of major banks will often give much better exchange rates than currency-exchange kiosks.
- If using a debit card, it is good practice to limit the amount of cash available in the account and simply transfer money from another account if you need more at any point on tour. Always use caution when withdrawing money.
- Many travelers choose to exchange $100+ into Euro (via their bank or AAA) so they have cash upon arrival.
- Be sure to keep cash on hand for sharing restaurant tabs, cabs, tips, and smaller purchases.
What are the tipping guidelines for this tour?
- You are responsible for tipping the Barge Crew and Excursion Driver, typically at the conclusion of the cruise. We suggest you budget Euro 50-70, depending on the level of service you receive.
- We suggest you read up on tipping culture in the various places you will be visiting so you can show your appreciation for any personal service provided with an appropriate gratuity.
- In Paris, service is already factored into any restaurant price. However, it's customary to leave something small. If you receive assistance translating a menu or have special requests for the kitchen, consider tipping more.
- You may want to tip your WTT Tour Director for an outstanding job. The amount is entirely a personal preference. If you'd like a guideline, consider $8-$10 per day.
