Thursday, 15 April 2027: Tour of Gothic Quarter; Gaudi Modern Architecture Tour (B,L)
We begin our day with a walking tour of Barrio Gotic, Barcelona's Gothic Quarter. Dating to the medieval times, this section of the city features impressive architecture. Antoni Gaudi was one of Spain's great modern architects and his name is synonymous with Barcelona. We will visit one of his most masterful creations, the Basilica Sagrada Familia, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the largest unfinished Catholic church in the world. This afternoon we make our way to another UNESCO site, Parc Guell, an architectural masterpiece created by Gaudi. Between the colorful mosaics and the stellar city views, this is a visual overload and a must-see destination in Barcelona.
Friday, 16 April 2027: Day Trip to Montserrat (B)
Today takes us to one of the most significant and stunning places in Catalonia. Montserrat Mountain is instantly recognizable for its jagged appearance. We enjoy a tour of this scenic town which is of religious significance to many. Established in 1025 to commemorate local shepherds' vision of the Virgin Mary, the Benedictine monastery is now home to La Moreneta (the Black Madonna), one of Spain's most revered icons. There will be time to explore at your leisure before we return to Barcelona. Perhaps you can see a choir performance at the monastery, take a short hike to view the Cross of San Miguel, ride the funicular or visit the museum.
Saturday, 17 April 2027: Dali Theatre-Museum; Travel to Carcassonne (B,L)
We depart Barcelona this morning on our way to France. Our first stop is Figueres, Spain, known for being the birthplace of Salvador Dali, the world's most renowned surrealist artist. It is here the artist set up his museum designed specifically to house the largest collection of his work. We'll visit the museum to learn more about Dali’s unique and captivating world. After that, we make our way to Carcassonne, a fortified French city and UNESCO World Heritage city renowned for its walls, defensive towers, and drawbridges. Overnight Carcassone - 1 night
Sunday, 18 April 2027: City Tour of Carcassonne; Travel to Avignon (B,L)
This morning we tour the city of Carcassonne which dates back more than 2,000 years. It is an outstanding example of a medieval fortified town, with its double walls and numerous towers encircling the castle and the surrounding buildings. We will see architectural masterpieces such as the Gothic Saint Michel Cathedral as well as the Canal due Midi, a set of waterways built in the 1600s. We then make our way to Avignon in Provence, a beautiful historic city that seems straight out of a fairy tale. There will be time to explore on your own and discover the charm of Pont d’Avignon, a medieval bridge dating to the 12th century that was once one of only three bridges to span the mighty Rhone. Overnight Avignon - 2 nights
Monday, 19 April 2027: A Day in Provence: Arles; Saint-Remy de Provence (B)
We explore Provence today, a region of France known for its rolling vineyards, olive groves and lavender fields. We begin in Arles, once a provincial capital of ancient Rome but perhaps is better known for inspiring the landscapes of Vincent van Gogh. The city's two-tiered Roman Amphitheatre, which has survived for more than two millennia, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We continue on to the delightful city of Saint-Remy de Provence to taste many local Provencal delicacies and stroll along the narrow streets of this charming French village. We return to Avignon this evening.
Tuesday, 20 April 2027: Travel the French Riviera (B)
Today we make our way along the famed French Riviera, the Mediterranean coastline known in French as the Cote d’Azur. It is here where art, gastronomy, architecture, history, fashion, luxury and sublime natural spaces are all in perfect harmony. We will stop in Cannes, known for the glitz and glamour of it's prestigious film festival, before continuing along the sea road to Cap d'Antibes, a picturesque headland that is one of the most prestigious and expensive places to live in all of France. We'll visit the Picasso Museum in nearby Antibes before continuing our panoramic journey to Nice. Overnight Nice - 1 night
Wednesday, 21 April 2027: City Tour of Nice; Monaco; Travel to Genoa (B)
The city of Nice is known for its glittering Mediterranean beaches, great climate, stellar museums, and its century-old promenade. We'll spend about a two hours getting familiar with this beautiful city before we say good-bye to France. We then make our way to the Principality of Monaco, a sovereign city-state nestled between France and Italy. Monaco is the second-smallest independent country in the world and is populated by millionaires and celebrities. Its casino, the Monte Carlo, is perhaps the most famous gambling venue in the world. We then travel along the coast of the Ligurian Sea to Genoa, Italy. Overnight Genoa - 4 nights
Thursday, 22 April 2027: Walking Tour of Genoa; Cooking Class; Free Time (B,L)
We begin our day with a walking tour of Genoa, one of Italy's most underrated cities. Genoa was once a powerful maritime republic and is rich in art and notable architecture. We'll walk through the historical center, said to be largest medieval quarter in Europe. Comprised of a network of caruggi (narrow alleyways), this central core houses many palazzi (palaces) that showcase the wealth and power of the past ruling classes. In a country known for food, Genoa offers up its own unique contributions, including focaccia and pesto. After our tour is complete, we'll enjoy a local cooking demonstration and enjoy lunch. The remainder of afternoon and evening is yours to explore as you wish. Your Tour Leader will have suggestions for things to see, do and taste!
Friday, 23 April 2027: Day Trip to Cinque Terre (B)
Today we explore Cinque Terre, one of the most colorful and postcard-perfect regions in all of Italy. Originally only accessible by sea or mule paths, Cinque Terre is a string of centuries-old coastal villages situated on the rugged Italian Riviera. In each of the villages, houses and vineyards cling to steep terraces, creating a remarkable landscape of exceptional beauty. This day is full of walking as there is really no other way to explore this unique area. We'll take the local train to Riomaggiore to walk through the narrow pebbled streets to a rocky cove overlooking a bay full of fishing boats. From here, we will travel to Manarola and then on to Vernazza, the most famous of Cinque Terre towns. Meander through the enchanting village and admire the old fortress that once protected the town from pirates. From here we board the train for the short ride to Monterosso, the last village we explore before returning to Genoa by train.
Saturday, 24 April 2027: Day Trip to Portofino; San Fruttuoso Abbey (B,D)
Portofino is yet another picturesque fishing village situated on the tip of the Italian Riviera and is often described as "devastatingly beautiful." It is known for its lovely harbor and the exceptionally clean water. Once just a sleepy fishing village, the city's popularity exploded in the "jet-set" era of the latter half of the 20th century when the town became the summertime playground for the world's elite. In fact, the term "paparazzi" was coined here as photographers documented the lives of the rich and famous. We'll enjoy time here to see the sights and admire the views, then hop a small boat to nearby San Fruttuoso, a little fishing village with one of the most beautiful beaches in Italy, to see the famous Abbey and Watchtower built in 1562. We make our way back to Genoa where we will regroup for a late Farewell Dinner and reminisce about this incredible European adventure.
Sunday, 25 April 2027: Return Home from Genoa (B)
Sadly, our time together has come to an end. Make your return flight at your convenience. Based on the departure time you provide WTT, your Tour Leader can assist with organizing travelers into small groups so you can ride-share to the airport if you wish.

Your Responsibilities as a Solo Traveler
As a solo traveler you are responsible for yourself, your possessions, your physical fitness, and all other aspects related to participation in the WTT tour you have chosen. Be sure to read the itinerary closely to better understand the physical requirements necessary for the tour.
WTT tours are not suitable for anyone whose mobility is challenged or compromised. If you struggle with walking, standing or negotiating stairs or if you are in doubt as to your ability to meet the physical activity requirements, you should not sign up for this trip.
What is the Group Size?
You will be introduced to the WTT Tour Leader when you receive your Final Travel Instructions, about 2-3 weeks before the tour begins.
Learn about your fellow travelers after final payment by visiting MyWTT. Room sharing assignments will be listed in the Final Travel Instructions.
What meals are included and how are dietary restrictions accommodated?
You do not have to dine alone unless it is your personal choice. You'll most likely be dining with new acquaintances you've made, or you can join the Tour Leader.
Dietary Restrictions on International Tours: WTT has limited to no control over food selections or variety from meal-to-meal, especially at hotels. While we do our best to accommodate dietary restrictions and ensure variety of options, we cannot guarantee either.
What clothing and items should I pack for this trip?
The Mediterranean coast is generally comfortable this time of year with highs in the 60s and lower 70s. Springtime showers are not uncommon though days are largely sunny. We suggest you monitor weather apps before you depart for the most current information.
For This Trip You Will Need—
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Scarf or sleeved-shirt to cover your shoulders as needed—Those with bare shoulders may be denied entry into some churches or other religious establishments.
You May Also Want—
- Smart-casual wear if you'd like to dress up for dinners
- Lightweight jacket/sweater for the cool mornings and evenings or the unusually brisk day
- Inexpensive rain poncho, just in case
- Swimsuit—several of the hotels have pools
- Refillable water bottle
- A lightweight daypack/backpack for walking tours
Good Packing Habits—
- Pack a limited amount of comfortable, casual clothing that layer and coordinate. Your fellow travelers will not mind or even notice – seeing you in the same clothing.
- Bring what you need to get a good night's sleep, such as ear plugs, white noise generator, sleeping pills, etc. Unfamiliar noises of all types can disrupt your rest.
- Bring only two pairs of everyday shoes: one pair of well-broken-in walking shoes, and a second pair that could do double-duty as a walking shoe or a slightly dressy shoe.
- Pare down your beauty regimen to the bare minimum and always pack travel-sized toiletries.
- Pack medication in your carry-on and pack only as much as needed for the duration of your tour plus a few extra days as a precaution.
What are the luggage restrictions for this tour?
On every WTT tour, our policies regarding luggage restrictions are driven by the physical space limitations of the vehicles we use and the requirement that all travelers be able to manage their belongings without assistance.
- It is best to travel as lightly as possible. Most travelers regret when they have packed too much.
- We strongly recommend you bring only one suitcase that is a size you can manage on your own. Be sure to check your airline luggage policies.
- You are responsible for managing your belongings. We expect you to take your belongings to and from the coach on days we change hotels. We do not provide luggage pulls; they are not safe and are inconvenient.
- Steps exist at most hotel entrances.
What are the phone and internet recommendations for this tour?
- You should understand what your current cell phone plan includes in terms of data and minutes. Some, like certain T-Mobile plans, include an international package.
- Contact your cell phone service provider before departing about adding an international calling plan. Most carriers have flat daily rates which will allow your US-based phone to be functional upon arrival in a foreign country.
- Managing data while traveling internationally is important. Using WiFi when available and communicating through apps like What's App help you manage data usage while traveling.
- Learn how to make an international call BEFORE you leave. Consult your cell provider and check out the website www.HowtoCallAbroad.com.
What are the electricity requirements for this tour?
Europe operates on 220V or 230V, which differs from most of North America and most European countries use the Europlug (also called the C-plug). Most of today's electronics (laptops, phone chargers etc.) are multi-voltage and will work worldwide automatically without a transformer, but will require a standard European plug adapter. Do not bring any heating appliances (curling iron, flat iron, etc) unless they are specifically rated as multi-voltage.
What are the tipping guidelines for this tour?
All tips to drivers and local guides who join the tour to lead individual activities will be paid on your behalf.
- You are responsible for tipping the National Guide who travels with the group. Budget the equivalent of $75 - $85. (Tipping can be done in EUROs of US Dollars)
- We suggest you read up on tipping culture in the various places you will be visiting so you can show your appreciation for any personal service provided with an appropriate gratuity.
- You may want to tip your WTT Tour Leader for an outstanding job. The amount is entirely a personal preference. If you'd like a guideline, consider $8-$10 per day.
