Itinerary
Thursday, 01 April 2027: Arrive San Jose, Costa Rica; Welcome Dinner (D)
Schedule your flight at your convenience to arrive no later than 4:00pm. Take local transportation to the hotel. If you'd like to see more of San Jose, consider adding on the Early Arrival package which includes a city tour of San Jose. Our tour begins at 6:00pm in the lobby of the hotel with a Welcome Meeting, followed by dinner together to get acquainted and discuss our upcoming adventure. Overnight San Jose - 1 night
Friday, 02 April 2027: Travel to Arenal; Adventure Park Aerial Tram & Hanging Bridges (B,D)
Today takes us to the mountainous area of Arenal, home to the colossal Arenal Volcano. This is a popular area for birders, nature lovers and anyone who wants to relax in natural hot springs. Before reaching our hotel, we will stop at Sky Adventure Park to ride the aerial tram for amazing views of Lake Arenal. This serene journey culminates at an observation deck where we’re greeted by the iconic Hand Of Arenal, an impressive sculpture of a giant hand emerging from the earth. We also have the opportunity to traverse hanging suspension bridges with panoramic treetop vistas, then explore the forest floor on well-kept paths on a 2.5mile nature walk. We then make our way to the hotel for a bit of afternoon downtime. Feeling a bit more adventurous? Then add on the optional ziplining experience. See the Space Reservation form for pricing. Tonight, we enjoy dinner together. Overnight La Fortuna - 3 nights
Saturday, 03 April 2027: Arenal Volcano National Park; Coffee Plantation; Free Afternoon and Hot Springs (B,D)
We begin the day at El Silencio Private Reserve to get close to the base of the Arenal volcano. A short (less than a mile) but moderate walk along a volcanic stone path takes us to one of the best viewpoints of the massive volcano. We then make our way over to the primary rain forest along the outskirts of Arenal to stroll along a 1-mile trail for opportunities to see a wide variety of plants and animals that inhabit the rain forest, such as toucans, turkeys, orioles, peccaries, snakes and monkeys. Early this afternoon, we'll enjoy an interesting farm visit that combines the richness of coffee with the sweetness of chocolate. We'll then return to the hotel with time to enjoy the hotel's hot springs. There are 8 different pools here that range in temperature and feature hydro-massage...just what is needed after this morning walks. Tonight, we'll enjoy dinner together at the hotel.
Sunday, 04 April 2027: Safari Floating Tour; Sloth Sanctuary (B,D)
This morning we're in for a unique experience -- a floating safari tour on the Peñas Blancas river. This is a leisurely float on big inflatable rafts which provide the opportunity to observe a variety of animals including sloths, monkeys, caiman, turtles and exceptional tropical birds. Costa Rica is known for its sloth population and so this afternoon we will visit a sloth sanctuary that rescues and rehabilitates the country's two species of sloths, the two-toed and the three-toed. This area provides sloths with ideal climate, protection, abundant food sources and an absence of predators. We'll follow a 1-mile trail along a river to spy these emblematic animals. We return to the hotel for dinner together.
Monday, 05 April 2027: Travel to Tamarindo; Free Afternoon (B)
After breakfast, we'll check out of our hotel and continue on to Tamarindo, on Costa Rica's Pacific coast. Our resort hotel is situated on a white sandy beach where we can enjoy unforgettable sunset views and take advantage of the property's many amenities. It's an ideal place to conclude a Costa Rican tour. Overnight Tamarindo - 3 nights
Tuesday, 06 April 2027: Free Morning; Catamaran Cruise (B)
This morning is at leisure. Sleep in, go for a beach walk, sign up for an optional activity. After lunch, we'll embark on an afternoon of sailing aboard a luxury catamaran that departs from the Flamingo Marina. We'll sail along Costa Rica’s beautiful coastline and enjoy snorkeling, a variety of snacks and complimentary beverages. It's a wonderful way to relax and enjoy the lovely setting.
Wednesday, 07 April 2027: Free Day; Farewell Dinner (B,D)
Today is yours to enjoy as you wish. The resort features many optional activities from which to choose (costs not included in tour), from horseback riding, surfing, waterfall excursions, bird-watching or simply lounging by the pool or walking in the surf. We will enjoy a Farewell Dinner tonight.
Thursday, 08 April 2027: Return Home (B)
Sadly, our time together has come to an end. Make your return flight at your convenience. The small and easy-to-navigate airport in Liberia, Costa Rica, is the nearest airport; it takes about 2 hours to reach from Tamarindo, but you only need to allow about 1 hour at the airport to get checked in. The hotel offers a shuttle service for a fee.

Insurance Reminder
Mandatory Emergency Medical/Evacuation Insurance is required to take this trip and is not included in the cost of the tour.
Standard health insurance plans often do not cover medical emergencies in other countries. As a solo traveler, insurance is essential to provide support and care coordination in the event of a medical emergency. It must cover air-evacuation from the destination as a result of a medical emergency during the trip.
Suggested companies for Emergency Medical/Evacuation Insurance are: Allianz Travel Insurance and World Nomads.
Trip Cancellation / Trip Interruption Insurance is not included in the cost of the tour. It is your responsibility to determine the amount and type of coverage you require to recoup some or all of your travel investment, whether you cancel, are unable to complete the tour, or the tour cannot operate. Section 4.0 of WTT Terms & Conditions explains what will happen to your payments in the unlikely event that your tour cannot operate. You can purchase travel insurance from any provider you choose. To get an idea of rates, please go to NTA Travel Protection Plan (Enter 206063 for the "Tour Operator Location #") or TravelGuard.

How Does Room Sharing Work?
On the Reservation Form there are 3 choices regarding room-sharing.

- All shared rooms have 2 beds
- All shared rooms are non-smoking
- No special requests about your roommate can be accommodated

Your Responsibilities as a Solo Traveler
As a solo traveler you are responsible for yourself, your possessions, your physical fitness, and all other aspects related to participation in the WTT tour you have chosen. Be sure to read the itinerary closely to better understand the physical requirements necessary for the tour.
WTT tours are not suitable for anyone whose mobility is challenged or compromised. If you struggle with walking, standing or negotiating stairs or if you are in doubt as to your ability to meet the physical activity requirements, you should not sign up for this trip.
What is the Group Size?
You will be introduced to the WTT Tour Leader when you receive your Final Travel Instructions, about 2-3 weeks before the tour begins.
Learn about your fellow travelers after final payment by visiting MyWTT. Room sharing assignments will be listed in the Final Travel Instructions.
What meals are included and how are dietary restrictions accommodated?
Each day of the itinerary lists the included meals for that day (B,L,D,O). When a meal is not included, the WTT Tour Leader will have suggestions for where to eat.
You do not have to dine alone unless it is your personal choice. You'll most likely be dining with new acquaintances you've made, or you can join the Tour Leader.
Dietary Restrictions on International Tours: WTT has limited to no control over food selections or variety from meal-to-meal, especially at hotels. While we do our best to accommodate dietary requests and ensure variety of options, we cannot guarantee either.
What clothing and items should I pack for this trip?
This time of year, temperatures are likely to be in the high 80s to low 90s with nighttime lows dropping only into the 70s. Mountainous areas are generally 10 degrees cooler. Humidity is high (above 50%) and the sun is very intense. The chance of rain is low. We suggest you monitor weather apps leading up to the time you depart for the most current information.
For This Trip You'll Need—
- Sunscreen, Sunglasses, Hat
- Swimwear, coverup and other beachwear
- Reusable water bottle
- Insect repellent containing 20% Picaridin or 25% DEET
- Athleisure wear for active elements
You May Also Want—
- Small flashlight
- Binoculars
- Hiking Shoes, Closed Toe
- Shorts & Skirts
- Travel pant (Denim is less than ideal)
Good Packing Habits—
- Bring what you need to get a good night's sleep, such as ear plugs, white noise generator, sleeping aids, etc. Unfamiliar noises of all types can disrupt your rest.
- Pack a limited amount of comfortable, casual clothing that layer and coordinate. Your fellow travelers will not mind or even notice – seeing you in the same clothing.
- Bring only two pairs of everyday shoes: one pair of well-broken-in walking shoes, and a second pair that could do double-duty as a walking shoe or a slightly dressy shoe.
- Pare down your beauty regimen to the bare minimum and always pack travel-sized toiletries.
- Pack medication in your carry-on and pack only as much as needed for the duration of your tour plus a few extra days as a precaution.
What are the luggage restrictions for this tour?
On every WTT tour, our policies regarding luggage restrictions are driven by the physical space limitations of the vehicles we use and the requirement that all travelers be able to manage their own belongings without assistance.
- It is best to travel as lightly as possible. Most travelers regret when they have packed too much.
- You may bring one suitcase plus a carry-on bag.
- We strongly recommend you bring only one suitcase, plus 1 carry-on, which will make it easier to manage your belongings. There is a baggage weight limit of 25lbs for our boat ride to Tortuguero. Please make sure your luggage meets this requirement.
- You are responsible for managing your own belongings. We expect you to take your belongings from the coach to your room and to bring it back to the coach on days we change hotels. We do not provide luggage pulls; they are not safe and are inconvenient.
- Steps exist at most hotel entrances. On occasion the coach must unload passengers and luggage some distance from the hotel entrance.
What are the phone and internet recommendations for this tour?
- You should understand what your current cell phone plan includes in terms of data and minutes. Some, like certain T-Mobile plans, include an international package.
- Contact your cell phone service provider before departing about adding an international calling plan. Most carriers have flat daily rates which will allow your US-based phone to be functional upon arrival in a foreign country.
- Managing data while traveling internationally is important. Using WiFi when available and communicating through apps like What's App help you manage data usage while traveling.
- Learn how to make an international call BEFORE you leave. Consult your cell provider and check out the website www.HowtoCallAbroad.com.
How much money should I bring on this tour?
Only you can determine the optimum amount of cash to take on tour. When budgeting for out-of-pocket expenses, there are several aspects to consider: the number of meals you are responsible for, the amount of money you like to have on-hand for snacks and drinks, your individual shopping interests and habits, and cash for tipping (See Tipping Section).
- Notify your credit card issuer that you will be traveling and provide dates of travel.
- ATMs are typically the best way of obtaining cash, however ATMs can be limited outside of San Jose. Few stores accept credit cards. Please be prepared to have cash at this destination.
- The official currency of Costa Rica is the Costa Rican Colon (CDC). However, you are unlikely to need colones as US currency is widely accepted and in most cases preferred. Be sure your dollar bills have been recently issued and in good condition with no tears or crumples.
- There is a USD $29 departure tax payable at the airport with USD/Costa Rican cash or credit card. This tax must be paid before you check in for your flight. It is typical for this fee to now be rolled into the price of your airline ticket.
What are the tipping guidelines for this tour?
- You are responsible for tipping the English-speaking In-Country Escort that travels with the group throughout the tour.
- We suggest you read up on tipping culture in the various places you will be visiting so you can show your appreciation for any personal service provided with an appropriate gratuity.
- It is customary to tip service personnel at hotels in Costa Rica. If you use the services of a bellhop, consider a tip of $1 per bag. Hotel housekeeping should receive around $2 per day and it is a good idea to leave your largest tip on the first day to guarantee exceptional service.
- The customary amount to tip in spas is 15% of the amount of the service provided.
- You may want to tip your WTT Tour Leader for an outstanding job. The amount is entirely a personal preference. If you'd like a guideline, consider $8-$10 per day.
Can I transfer my deposit to another tour?
To get off this tour and register for another tour, you must follow these steps - in the order shown:

The Cancellation Confirmation email will list the amount of parked credits from this tour that are now available to use on a new reservation.

Note: If you used Parked Credits to pay the deposit on this tour, these credits cannot be used a second time and are not eligible to be transferred.
