Itinerary
Monday, 21 June 2027: Arrive Portland, Oregon; Welcome Meeting and Dinner (D)
Schedule your arrival into Portland no later than 4:00pm and take local transportation to the hotel. The tour begins at 5:30pm in the lobby of our hotel. We will make introductions and then enjoy dinner together to get better acquainted. Overnight Portland - 3 nights
Tuesday, 22 June 2027: Trolley Tour; Portland Japanese Garden (B,L)
The day begins with a trolley tour of Portland allowing us to see key city landmarks and neighborhoods of the City of Roses. We enjoy a guided tour of the lovely Portland Japanese Garden, which is considered to be one of the most authentic Japanese Gardens outside of Japan. It overlooks the city and provides a tranquil, urban oasis. After lunch together, we'll stroll through the International Rose Test Garden, established to serve as a safe haven during WWI for European hybrid roses. Now, more than 10,000 individual rose bushes bloom here, representing 610+ rose varieties. The rest of the afternoon is yours to enjoy as you wish. Perhaps visit Powell's Books!
Wednesday, 23 June 2027: Columbia River Gorge; Wine Tasting (B,L,O)
Today we experience the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. We travel along the Historic Columbia River Highway, the first major paved road in the Pacific Northwest as well as the first designated scenic highway in the US. There is a five-mile stretch of road known as the “waterfall corridor” — which boasts one of the largest concentrations of spectacular falls in North America. Enjoy the views of the Columbia River where basalt bluffs tower above the water. Thanks to its unique geography, the area boasts many wineries. We enjoy lunch together and stop for a wine tasting before returning to Portland late this afternoon.
Thursday, 24 June 2027: Astoria: Trolley Tour & Columbia River Maritime Museum (B,D)
We're off to Astoria! Founded in 1811, where the mouth of the mighty Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean, Astoria is the oldest city in the state and was the first permanent American settlement west of the Rocky Mountains. We hop aboard a historic trolley to learn about this fascinating city. We'll be glad to be riding aboard a trolley - this town is hilly! Then we spend time discovering the stories of the legendary Columbia River Bar, one of the most dangerous passages in the world, at the nationally renowned Columbia River Maritime Museum. Watch for seals and sea lions; they are commonly seen in the area, particularly in the river and around coastal docks and jetties. Tonight we enjoy dinner together. Overnight Astoria - 2 nights
Friday, 25 June 2027: Cape Disappointment Lighthouse; Free Time (B,L)
This morning we'll drive north to Cape Disappointment State Park, where spectacular cliffs rise above the ocean. Visit the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center before taking a 1.2-mile roundtrip hike up to the Cape Disappointment Lighthouse perched on the bluff above. After lunch together, the afternoon is yours to explore the charming riverside town of Astoria at your own pace. The all-day trolley makes it easy to hop around. Consider a walk along the 6-mile Astoria Riverwalk that follows the Columbia River. Pier 39 is worth a visit—it's home to shops, waterfront restaurants, and the Hanthorn Cannery Museum; the pier was formerly a fish processing plant. Of course, if the morning's adventure has you ready to relax, there's no better place than Astoria to simply find a comfortable spot to watch the river roll by.
Saturday, 26 June 2027: Ecola State Park; Cannon Beach; Farewell Dinner (B,D)
Ecola State Park is one of the crown jewels along Oregon's legendary 363-mile coastline. From the park's elevated vantage points, we witness spectacular ocean vistas where ancient sea stacks rise from the surf and endless beaches curve into the distance. Our journey continues along this scenic byway where around every bend reveals another breathtaking view. Towering coastal forests cascade down steep headlands to meet the Pacific, while offshore rocks create a impressive seascape. We stop and stretch our legs in charming Cannon Beach, famous for its iconic Haystack Rock, and browse the town's galleries and boutiques. This afternoon, we return to Portland where we'll stay near the airport for convenience. We gather for our Farewell Dinner to celebrate our unforgettable journey. Overnight Portland Airport area - 1 night
Sunday, 27 June 2027: Return Home from Portland (B)
Sadly, our time together has come to an end. Based on the departure time you provide WTT, your Tour Leader will organize travelers into small groups so you can ride-share to the airport if you wish.

- All shared rooms have 2 beds
- All shared rooms are non-smoking

What is the Group Size?

Learn about your fellow travelers after final payment by visiting MyWTT. Room sharing assignments will be listed in the Final Travel Instructions.
What meals are included and how are dietary restrictions accommodated?
Each day of the itinerary lists the included meals for that day (B,L,D,O=Other). When a meal is not included, the WTT Tour Leader will have suggestions for where to eat.
You do not have to dine alone unless it is your personal choice. You'll most likely be dining with new acquaintances you've made, or you can join the Tour Leader.
Dietary Restrictions: Vegetarian and gluten-free dietary restrictions can be accommodated on this tour with limited selections.
What clothing and items should I pack for this trip?
In general the temperature, rainfall and humidity levels vary based on the time of the year. We suggest you monitor weather apps leading up to the time you depart for the most current information.
For This Trip You May Want—
- Warm fleece jacket. Oregon's mornings and evenings can be quite brisk.
- One smart-casual outfit if you'd like to dress up a bit for dinners.
- Inexpensive rain poncho or rain jacket.
- Waterproof boots / rain boots that are comfortable for hiking.
Good Packing Habits—
- Bring what you need to get a good night's sleep, such as ear plugs, white noise generator, sleeping aids, etc. Unfamiliar noises of all types can disrupt your rest.
- Pack a limited amount of comfortable, casual clothing that layer and coordinate. Your fellow travelers will not mind or even notice – seeing you in the same clothing.
- Bring only two pairs of everyday shoes: one pair of well-broken-in walking shoes, and a second pair that could do double-duty as a walking shoe or a slightly dressy shoe.
- Pare down your beauty regimen to the bare minimum and always pack travel-sized toiletries.
- Pack medication in your carry-on and pack only as much as needed for the duration of your tour plus a few extra days as a precaution.
What are the luggage restrictions for this tour?
We will be using the WTT coach on this tour. The luggage restrictions are driven by the physical space limitations and the requirement that travelers manage their belongings.
- It is best to travel as lightly as possible. Most travelers regret when they have packed too much.
- You may bring one suitcase and a day pack or shoulder bag to keep with you in the coach.
- Maximum suitcase size: 22-24 inches in height. This is the size of bag that fits into the overhead bins of aircraft. Suitcases larger than this will not fit properly in the WTT coach; don't bring them.
- The weight of your bag should not exceed 30 pounds as you will need to lift it into the coach luggage compartment.
- You are responsible for managing your own belongings. We expect you to take your belongings from the coach to your room and to bring it back to the coach and load it on days we change hotels. We do not provide luggage pulls; they are not safe and are inconvenient. The possibility of steps exist at most hotel entrances.
What are the tipping guidelines for this tour?
All tips to local guides will be paid on your behalf.
- You are responsible for tipping waitstaff, porters, or other individuals who provide a service to you at the hotel, or other public locations.
- You may want to tip your WTT Tour Leader for an outstanding job. The amount is entirely a personal preference. If you'd like a guideline, consider $8-$10 per day.
