Itinerary
Monday, 04 January 2027: Arrive San Diego, CA; Welcome Dinner (D)
Schedule your arrival into San Diego International Airport no later than 4:00pm and take local transportation to our hotel. The tour begins at 6:00pm in the lobby of the hotel with our Welcome Meeting. We will make introductions and then enjoy a Welcome Dinner to get better acquainted. Overnight San Diego - 5 nights
Tuesday, 05 January 2027: USS Midway Museum; Old Town Food Tour (B,L)
This morning, the very interesting USS Midway Museum is on the itinerary. Board the longest-serving aircraft carrier and explore exhibits that educate us about this symbol of American freedom. Afterwards, a food tour through Old Town San Diego will feature authentic tacos and local beverages while exploring the birthplace of California. As you sample traditional Mexican fare, you'll discover the rich heritage of this historic neighborhood, learning how its Spanish and Mexican roots have shaped both the flavors on your plate and the cultural landscape of modern San Diego. The group may even encounter a local ghost or two! The evening is yours to enjoy as you wish.
Wednesday, 06 January 2027: La Jolla; Whale Watching (B,D)
Today we drive north to the charming neighborhood of La Jolla, a hilly, seaside town occupying seven miles of curving coastline along the Pacific Ocean. There will be time to enjoy this artsy community and walk to the nearby tide pools or La Jolla Cove to see the sea lions. This afternoon we'll get out on the water in search of whales. California grays return to the warmer waters here each winter from their feeding grounds in Alaska, so it's a perfect time of year to spot these magnificent creatures. If we are lucky, we may see humpbacks and fin whales.
Thursday, 07 January 2027: Balboa Park Walking Tour (B)
Balboa Park is one of North America's most renowned urban parks and is San Diego’s ever-changing, always amazing backyard. The park is home to 18 museums, multiple display gardens, a world-famous zoo, and plenty of outdoor space and unique sites. It all began in 1868 when San Diego's civic leaders set aside a scrub-filled mesa overlooking downtown. But it wasn't until 1892 that the first beautification efforts were made by horticulturalist Kate Sessions, who offered to plant 100 trees each year in exchange for 32 acres of parkland to use for her commercial nursery. On a guided tour of the park, we will focus on the gardens, architecture, art and heritage. This afternoon is yours to further explore the lovely museums surrounding the park.
Friday, 08 January 2027: Hotel del Coronado Tour; Free Afternoon; Farewell Dinner (B,D)
Today we cross the bridge to nearby to Coronado, a resort city on a peninsula in San Diego Bay. We will visit the famous Hotel del Coronado, which has become a sought-after set for filmmakers as well as hosted presidents, royalty and celebrities. When it first opened in 1888 it was the largest resort hotel in the world, and is a rare surviving example of an American architectural genre; the wooden Victorian beach resort. Spend some free time strolling along the beach or visiting the nearby Coronado Ferry Landing for scenic views and local shopping. This evening we'll enjoy our Farewell Dinner and recount our adventures of the past week.
Saturday, 09 January 2027: Return Home from San Diego (B)
Sadly, our time together has come to an end. Make your return flight home at your convenience. Based on the departure time you provide WTT, your Tour Leader can assist with organizing travelers into small groups so you can ride-share to the airport if you wish.

What clothing and items should I pack for this trip?
In general the temperature, rainfall and humidity levels vary based on the time of the year. We suggest you monitor weather apps leading up to the time you depart for the most current information.
For This Trip You May Want—
- Shoes that are comfortable for walking and light hiking
- Refillable water bottle
- Smart-casual wear if you'd like to dress up a bit for dinners
- Inexpensive rain poncho or travel umbrella, just in case
Good Packing Habits—
- Bring what you need to get a good night's sleep, such as ear plugs, white noise generator, sleeping aids, etc. Unfamiliar noises of all types can disrupt your rest.
- Pack a limited amount of comfortable, casual clothing that layer and coordinate. Your fellow travelers will not mind or even notice – seeing you in the same clothing.
- Bring only two pairs of everyday shoes: one pair of well-broken-in walking shoes, and a second pair that could do double-duty as a walking shoe or a slightly dressy shoe.
- Pare down your beauty regimen to the bare minimum and always pack travel-sized toiletries.
- Pack medication in your carry-on and pack only as much as needed for the duration of your tour plus a few extra days as a precaution.
What are the luggage restrictions for this tour?
On every WTT tour, our policies regarding luggage restrictions are driven by the requirement that all travelers be able to manage their own belongings without assistance.
- We strongly recommend you bring only one suitcase plus small shoulder bag/day pack/purse.
- You are responsible for managing your own belongings.
How much money should I bring on this tour?
What are the tipping guidelines for this tour?
- You are responsible for tipping waitstaff, porters, or other individuals who provide a service to you at the hotel, or other public locations.
- You may want to tip your WTT Tour Leader for an outstanding job. The amount is entirely a personal preference. If you'd like a guideline, consider $8-$10 per day.
