Kayaking the Green River
Through Utah's Canyonlands
August 30 - September 5, 2026Kayak along the Green River with WTT through one of the most scenic canyons on earth. The Green River flows where white, yellow, brown and red-hued canyon walls play off of the surreal greenish hue of the water. Our 60-mile journey takes us through Utah's Canyonlands and Labyrinth Canyon. The gentle current allows both experienced and inexperienced kayakers an equally enjoyable adventure. Each day we'll stop to swim, hike and eat lunch. In late afternoon we beach our kayaks on sandy stretches to set up camp, relax and sleep under a blanket of stars. No kayaking experience necessary! Itinerary
Sunday, 30 August 2026: Arrive Moab; Kayak Orientation; Welcome Dinner (D)
Schedule your flight into Moab to arrive no later than 4:00pm. The tour begins in the hotel lobby at 4:45pm as we make introductions and have a kayaking orientation. Following the orientation we’ll enjoy a Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight Moab - 1 night
Monday, 31 August 2026: Travel from Moab to the Green River (B,L,D)
Off we go to the "put-in" point of our trip. Here we will get into our kayaks and become comfortable with them before we head down the river. Don't worry. Ten minutes and a little instruction on the proper way to paddle and you're practically a pro! We then embark on a 60-mile journey where the Green River flows gracefully into Labyrinth Canyon, the longest stretch of undammed flat water in the Southwest. We'll stop as the flow of the river allows to rest along sandy beaches, grab a healthy snack and enjoy lunch. We set up camp each night, typically on sandy beaches along the riverbank. You can simply roll out a sleeping bag and sleep under the stars or help pitch a two-person tent if you wish. All camping gear is provided. Overnight Camping - 4 nights
Tuesday, 01 September 2026: Kayaking the Green River (B,L,D)
Wake up to the smell of coffee and the sound of the river babbling. After packing up we are back on the river for another day of beautiful sights and good conversation. This really is a team effort and everyone is expected to pitch in to help set up and break down camp.
Wednesday, 02 September 2026: Kayaking the Green River (B,L,D)
Each day will be similar...but not. Fresh scenery awaits around every bend. Each day you'll paddle alongside a new friend. Animals may come to the river to drink, and you may see evidence of Native Americans who left pictographs on the canyon walls.
Thursday, 03 September 2026: Kayaking the Green River (B,L,D)
Activities will be adapted to the flow of the river and the group members' abilities and interests. Those with the energy to roam far and climb high can do so during stops we will make, while those who want a more leisurely experience can simply relax riverside.
Friday, 04 September 2026: Kayaking the Green River; Farewell Dinner (B,D)
After a full morning of kayaking we conclude our time on the river. We bid farewell to our outstanding guides and return to Moab. After checking back into our hotel, there will be time for a shower before we head out to a Farewell Dinner. Overnight Moab - 1 night

What clothing and items should I pack for this trip?
In general this time of year, the average temperature during the day will likely be in the 80s dropping to the 50s at night. Although you’ll be traveling to a desert environment, be prepared for various weather conditions. Weather in this part of the country can be unpredictable. Rain is always a possibility.
ALL camping gear is supplied by the expedition company; all you need to pack is your personal gear.
Good Packing Habits—
- For any outdoor adventure, it is important to pack the right gear. Some say there is no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing.
- Pack as little as possible; whatever you bring travels in your kayak.
For the Trip You Will Need—
- Quick-drying, durable, lightweight clothing that layers easily. Zip-off pants are great!
- Rain Gear (jacket and pants) - not just for rain
- Swimsuit(s), preferably two-pieces
- Water shoes with good traction, such as Keen or Teva brand.
- Hiking shoes with socks
- Two refillable water bottles (preferably with a carabiner to clip to a bag)
- Goggles if you wear contacts
- Sunglasses and sunglass retainer to keep secure
- Sunscreen over SPF30, insect repellant, lip balm and moisturizing lotion
- Hat or visor with a clip to keep it secure
- Bandanas help prevent PFD vest chafe
- Eco-friendly soap (sold at sports/outdoor stores)
- Comfortable t-shirts and yoga pants or sweats to wear in camp
- Fleece or sweatshirt for cool mornings
- Long sleeve shirts to keep sun and bugs off
- Additional batteries and backup power bank for your phone
You May Also Want—
- A must - Fingerless paddling gloves (also sold by Head River guide)
- Nylon bath sponge or scrub pouf packed in a Zip-loc bag
- Ziploc and Trash bags to hold wet and dirty items
- Carabiners to clip bags and items on
- Wet wipes or moist towelettes
- Sarong— To cover legs if the sun is harsh
- Hand towel and beach towel
- Travel-sized pillow
- Small Day or Fanny Pack
- Flip-flops for wearing around camp only
- Personal water hydration backpack, such as CamelBak, instead of water bottles
- Bring what you need to get a good night's sleep, such as ear plugs, sleeping pills, etc. Unfamiliar noises of all types can disrupt your rest.
- Personal Alcohol is allowed but must in a can or plastic container
- Personal Snacks if you have special preferences
- Good Book and card games for camp
Packing Dry Bags—
At the kayaking orientation meeting, you will receive 2 water proof dry bags for individual use.
Your Personal Dry Bag—
This bag is for the things you only need while in camp. Think of it as your checked luggage at the airport. Once packed, it will be strapped down for the day. The bag is approximately 20″x 20″x 27″. Your sleeping bag (provided) will come already packed in this bag. Pack all items in a duffle bag for easier access.
Ditty Bag—
This smaller bag is 10" D x 20' H, and is intended to carry all those little things you would like to have with you during the day on the river. This bag is like your purse. It is carried on the kayak by your side so you can access it anytime. Items for your ditty bag might include: camera, medications, sun-block, lip balm, hat, etc. Although these bags are water resistant, we advise using Ziploc bags as an extra measure of caution to protect items that can’t get wet.
Calls of Nature
We pee in the river, downstream from camp, and we bathe in the river, upstream from camp. A latrine is set up each evening at camp for solid waste only. Your body will quickly adjust to the rhythm of the trip.
What are the luggage restrictions for this tour?
On every WTT tour, our policies regarding luggage restrictions are driven by the physical space limitations of our transportation and the requirement that all travelers be able to manage their own luggage.
- We STRONGLY RECOMMEND you bring a duffle/gym bag (pack it empty in your suitcase) to contain your things while on the river. You will be provided a “dry bag” to put your duffle bag/personal things in. If you do not have a duffle bag, bring a large trash bag or laundry bag/pillowcase to hold your belongings.
- All suitcases will be left in secure storage while you are on the river. Absolutely no suitcases can be brought on the river. Be sure to have your WTT luggage tag on the items you will place in secure storage.
- There is no electricity on the river so charge your camera battery and leave the charger (and your cell phone) behind in your suitcase, along with any nicer travel clothing.
What are the phone and internet recommendations for this tour?
There is no cell phone coverage while on the river. If friends or family need to reach you in case of emergency, they can leave a message with the expedition company and it will do its best to relay the message to the river guides.
How much money should I bring on this tour?
What are the tipping guidelines for this tour?
Each traveler is responsible for:
- Tipping the river guides. The guides work hard to provide you an outstanding experience. An appropriate amount is somewhere between $150 to $200, depending on the level of service you were provided. Tips should be provided in cash and your tip contribution will be pooled and shared among all the river guides.
- Tipping taxi drivers, waitstaff, porters, or other individuals who provide a service to you at the hotel, or other public locations.
- Additionally, you may want to tip your WTT Tour Leader for an outstanding job. The amount is entirely a personal preference. If you'd like a guideline, consider $7 - $10 per day.
What other Additional Information do I need to know?
- You must fit into the provided life jacket (max: 52" chest size)
- You must be able to climb in and off the kayaks
- You must have sure footing to navigate uneven terrain on walks and in camp
