Itinerary
Friday, 04 December 2026: Arrive Munich; Welcome Meeting & Dinner (D)
Schedule your flight into Munich to arrive no later than 2:00pm and take local transportation (or purchase an optional private transfer) to the hotel. The tour begins with our Welcome Meeting at 5:00pm in the lobby of our hotel. Afterward, we will immerse ourselves in the local atmosphere as we enjoy dinner together. Overnight Munich - 2 nights
Saturday, 05 December 2026: Munich City Tour & Christmas Markets (B,L)
We begin our day with a guided tour of Bavaria's largest city, Munich. Our walking tour takes us past Karlsplatz Stachus (a famous square with fountains) Church Frauenkirche, Viktualienmarkt and more. We explore Marienplatz with its attractive architecture that dates from the Middle Ages and explore the Christmas Market here. We enjoy lunch together. The rest of the day is yours to explore Munich as you wish. Check out one of many additional Christmas Markets, get a bird's eye view of the city from St. Peter's Church, visit a theater for a performance or simply rest up from the jet lag. There are so many opportunities in Munich to soak up the Christmas atmosphere.
Sunday, 06 December 2026: Travel to Innsbruck; Visit Neuschwanstein Castle (B)
Today is St. Nicholas Day. The tradition calls for well-behaved children to leave their shoes outside the home at night and they are then rewarded with sweets, peanuts and tangerines in the morning. Expect a treat today in observance of the holiday. Leaving Munich, we make our way to the fairy-tale Neuschwanstein Castle, which provided inspiration for Walt Disney as Sleeping Beauty's castle. The snow-capped mountain peaks and frozen lakes make this a true winter wonderland. King Ludwig II of Bavaria had the castle built on a remote rocky outcrop near the little village of Schwangau. Its style is similar to that of a knight's castle but with a sumptuously decorated interior and a marvelous view over the Bavarian countryside. To get to the castle entrance, be prepared to walk up hill for about 15 minutes. After our tour (subject to availability), we leave Germany and travel to Innsbruck, Austria, known as the winter adventure capital of Europe. Overnight Innsbruck - 2 nights
Monday, 07 December 2026: Innsbruck City Tour; Free Afternoon (B)
Nestled amidst the majestic peaks of the Austrian Alps, Innsbruck offers a quintessential winter dreamland experience. We'll enjoy a walking tour of the colorful city and visit Old Town to see fine examples of Imperial splendor and architectural gems from the Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical periods. We'll view the Cathedral and the Golden Roof, the 15th-century iconic symbol of the city, and admire how the festive Christmas Market stalls seem to fit perfectly in this area. There are a handful of Christmas Markets in Innsbruck but the Old Town market is one of the most attractive in the world given its alpine setting. The afternoon is free for you to explore Innsbruck as you wish. Enjoy local treats such as "kiachln" (piping hot doughnuts laced with sauerkraut!) and of course warm yourself with a mug of gluhwein. Your Tour Leader can offer suggestions.
Tuesday, 08 December 2026: Travel to Salzburg; Swarovski Crystal World; Chocolate Tasting (B,D)
This morning, we travel to Salzburg, one of Austria's most beautiful cities. En route, we visit the bling-tastic Swarovski Crystal World to see a sparkling, twinkling winter wonderland. In the late 1800s, Daniel Swarovski invented a machine that revolutionized the process of crystal cutting making it possible to cut crystal with extraordinary precision. Today, Swarovski crystal is known the world over for its lustrous beauty. We also stop at a chocolate factory for a guided tour and tasting, before making our way through the picturesque mountainside to Salzburg. Built on the fortune of its famous salt mines, Salzburg is the birthplace of the Snow White and the Seven Dwarves legend, home to the hills from the Sound of Music and purveyor of absolutely everything Mozart. Overnight Salzburg - 2 nights
Wednesday, 09 December 2026: Salzburg Walking Tour with Hohensalzburg Fortress: Free Afternoon (B)
Salzburg captivates with its cobblestone lanes, bubbling river and charming kitsch atmosphere. Our guided walking tour will begin in Salzburg's historic Altstadt (Old City), which is a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. After viewing the Baroque Town Center and Mozart's Home, we take the cable car up to the imposing 11th-century Hohensalzburg Fortress, which looms over the Old Town. Be sure to peruse the small Christmas Market in the courtyard of the fortress. The rest of the afternoon is yours to visit the market in Cathedral Square at the base of the fortress, said to be among the loveliest in all of Europe. The scents of gluhwein, roasted chestnuts and toasted almonds fill the air as does the sounds and songs of the holiday.
Thursday, 10 December 2026: Travel to Vienna via the City of Linz (B,D)
Continuing our journey across the Austrian Alps, we make our way to Linz. The city is known for its quaint 17th-century Old Town and wealthy steel industry. Located on both sides of the Danube River, it is home to a harbor that doubles as one of Europe's biggest graffiti galleries. On our walking tour we'll see highlights such as Hauptplatz (the main square), City Hall, Linzer Landhaus and the elaborate St Mary's Cathedral adorned with pointed arch stained glass windows. We continue on to Vienna, the Austrian capital city which is also known as the waltz capital of the world. Overnight Vienna - 3 nights
Friday, 11 December 2026: Vienna City Tour; Free Afternoon; Evening Classical Concert (B,L)
We'll gain an overview of this remarkable city and its grand and splendid architecture on a tour. Many buildings were once home to the Habsburgs, one of the most powerful royal houses of Europe. Our tour ends at Rathausplatz, the square in front of City Hall, where we find Christkindlmarkt, the most visited and famous Christmas Market in Vienna. A large tree dominates the center with dozens of surrounding stalls offering the full spectrum of seasonal offerings. We share lunch together. There is some free time this afternoon to spend as you wish. If you need to take a break or just warm up, be sure to visit one of Vienna’s classic cafés, where coffee is an art form. We meet this evening to enjoy a local concert together.
Saturday, 12 December 2026: Personal Day to Explore Vienna; Farewell Dinner (B,D)
Spend this day as you wish in Vienna, one of the most magical cities during the holidays. There are many additional Christmas Markets to visit so you can stock up on those last minute gifts. Your Tour Leader can offer suggestions. Whatever you choose to do today, we will meet up again one last time for our Farewell Dinner.
Sunday, 13 December 2026: Return Home from Vienna (B)
Sadly, our time together has come to an end. Make your return flight at your convenience. Transfers are not included but your Tour Leader can help organize travelers into small groups so you can ride-share to the airport if you wish or take the very convenient train.

Your Responsibilities as a Solo Traveler
As a solo traveler you are responsible for yourself, your possessions, your physical fitness, and all other aspects related to participation in the WTT tour you have chosen. Be sure to read the itinerary closely to better understand the physical requirements necessary for the tour.
WTT tours are not suitable for anyone whose mobility is challenged or compromised. If you struggle with walking, standing or negotiating stairs or if you are in doubt as to your ability to meet the physical activity requirements, you should not sign up for this trip.
What is the Group Size?
You will be introduced to the WTT Tour Leader when you receive your Final Travel Instructions, about 2-3 weeks before the tour begins.
Learn about your fellow travelers after final payment by visiting MyWTT. Room sharing assignments will be listed in the Final Travel Instructions.
What meals are included and how are dietary restrictions accommodated?
Each day of the itinerary lists the included meals for that day (B,L,D,O). When a meal is not included, the WTT Tour Leader will have suggestions for where to eat.
You do not have to dine alone unless it is your personal choice. You'll most likely be dining with new acquaintances you've made, or you can join the Tour Leader.
Dietary Restrictions on International Tours: WTT has limited to no control over food selections or variety from meal-to-meal, especially at hotels. While we do our best to accommodate dietary requests and ensure variety of options, we cannot guarantee either.
What clothing and items should I pack for this trip?
In general this time of year, the temperature in Germany and Austria will likely be in the 30s. Rain, sleet or snow are likely as it is winter! Bundle up!
For This Trip You'll Need—
- Attire appropriate for outdoor winter walking, including a warm waterproof jacket and shoes/boots.
- Clothing that easily layers to control warmth.
You May Also Want—
- Swimsuit for hotel saunas and spas
- Wool socks, warm hat, scarf and gloves
Good Packing Habits—
- Bring what you need to get a good night's sleep, such as ear plugs, white noise generator, sleeping aids, etc. Unfamiliar noises of all types can disrupt your rest.
- Pack a limited amount of comfortable, casual clothing that layer and coordinate. Your fellow travelers will not mind or even notice – seeing you in the same clothing.
- Bring only two pairs of everyday shoes: one pair of well-broken-in walking shoes, and a second pair that could do double-duty as a walking shoe or a slightly dressy shoe.
- Pare down your beauty regimen to the bare minimum and always pack travel-sized toiletries.
- Pack medication in your carry-on and pack only as much as needed for the duration of your tour plus a few extra days as a precaution.
What are the luggage restrictions for this tour?
On every WTT tour, our policies regarding luggage restrictions are driven by the physical space limitations of the vehicles we use and the requirement that all travelers be able to manage their own belongings without assistance and any restrictions imposed by other forms of transportation.
- It is best to travel as lightly as possible. Most travelers regret when they have packed too much.
- You may bring one suitcase plus one carry-on.
- You are responsible for managing your own belongings. That means we expect you to take your belongings from the coach to your room and to bring it back to the coach on days we change hotels. We do not provide luggage pulls; they are not safe and are inconvenient.
- Steps exist at most hotel entrances. Due to narrow European streets, sometimes the coach transportation must unload passengers and luggage some distance from the hotel entrance. It is your responsibility to get your luggage from these drop off points to the hotel and into your assigned room.
- If you carry a purse, it should be able to be worn across your body, hands-free and preferably under your coat for security.
What are the phone and internet recommendations for this tour?
- You should understand what your current cell phone plan includes in terms of data and minutes. Some, like certain T-Mobile plans, include an international package.
- Contact your cell phone service provider before departing about adding an international calling plan. Most carriers have flat daily rates which will allow your US-based phone to be functional upon arrival in a foreign country.
- Managing data while traveling internationally is important. Using WiFi when available and communicating through apps like What's App help you manage data usage while traveling.
- Learn how to make an international call BEFORE you leave. Consult your cell provider and check out the website www.HowtoCallAbroad.com.
What are the electricity requirements for this tour?
Europe operates on 220V or 230V, which differs from most of North America and most European countries use the Europlug (also called the C-plug). Most of today's electronics (laptops, phone chargers etc.) are multi-voltage and will work worldwide automatically without a transformer, but will require a standard European plug adapter. Do not bring any heating appliances (curling iron, flat iron, etc) unless they are specifically rated as multi-voltage.
How much money should I bring on this tour?
Only you can determine the optimum amount of cash to take on tour. When budgeting for out-of-pocket expenses, there are several aspects to consider: whether the country your are visiting is a cash-based society, the number of meals you are responsible for, your individual shopping interests and habits, and cash for tipping.
- Germany and Austria’s official currency is the Euro (EUR, €).
- Notify your credit card issuer that you will be traveling and provide dates of travel.
- ATMs are typically the best way of obtaining cash; they are found in most cities and at the airport. You must know your PIN number for your debit and credit cards in order to use the ATMs.
- Market purchases are likely to require cash. Many vendors do not accept credit cards.
- If a merchant gives you the choice between making your transaction in USD or the local currency, always choose the local currency, to avoid dynamic currency conversion which includes a conversion fee.
- Do not rely on credit or debit cards as your only source of money.
- You may want to keep $100 or so in local currency for cabs, tips, sharing meal tabs, and smaller purchases.
What are the tipping guidelines for this tour?
All tips to local guides during your tour will be paid on your behalf.
- You are responsible for tipping the National Guide who travels with the group (Budget $45-$55)
- You are responsible for tipping waitstaff, porters, or other individuals who provide a service to you at the hotel, or other public locations.
- Gratuity and service charges are usually added to a restaurant bill. However, rounding up is common practice. For example if the bill is €28.50 you might want to round up to €30.00.
- You may want to tip your WTT Tour Leader for an outstanding job. The amount is entirely a personal preference. If you'd like a guideline, consider $8-$10 per day.
