Walking is a key component of this tour. On some days, between walking tours and personal exploration you can expect to walk 4-6 miles over the course of a day. In this part of Europe, expect many cobble-stoned walkways and stairs that lead to points of interest. There is simply no way to see these sites without a fair bit of walking involved.
Your Responsibilities as a Solo Traveler

Itinerary
Monday, 07 September 2026: Arrive Dubrovnik; Welcome Meeting & Dinner (D)
Schedule your flight into Dubrovnik to arrive no later than 3:00pm and take local transportation (or purchase an Optional Private Transfer) to the hotel. The tour begins at 5:00pm in the lobby of our hotel. After our Welcome Meeting we will enjoy a Welcome Dinner and get better acquainted. Overnight Dubrovnik - 3 nights
Tuesday, 08 September 2026: Dubrovnik Walking Tour; Afternoon at Leisure (B,D)
We devote this morning to a walking tour of Dubrovnik’s pedestrian-only Old Town, which became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979. This city situated on the Dalmatian coast became an important Mediterranean sea power beginning in the 13th century. Although severely damaged by an earthquake in 1667, Dubrovnik managed to preserve its beautiful churches, monasteries, palaces and fountains. We'll also ascend Mount Srd—the enormous hill that backstops the city—by cable car for stunning views of the islands dotting the crystal clear Adriatic Sea. The afternoon is yours to spend as you wish. Perhaps you'd like to walk the medieval ramparts or wander the many streets filled with interesting shops. We regroup for dinner together this evening.
Wednesday, 09 September 2026: Day Trip to Montenegro (B,L)
Today we travel to the Republic of Montenegro, a small yet diverse country blessed with a mild climate and natural beauty. After crossing the border, we head to Perast, an old, charming coastal town. Here we'll board a boat to Our Lady of the Rocks, which features a tiny chapel on a man-made islet in the Adriatic. Then we head to the mouth of the beautiful Bay of Kotor, the longest and deepest fjord in southern Europe, to visit the city of Kotor, a dramatically beautiful town wedged between mountain and sea. Within its sturdy walls lie labyrinthine lanes that are home to churches, shops, cafes and other surprises. We return to Dubrovnik late this afternoon.
Thursday, 10 September 2026: Seaside City of Split; Split Walking Tour; Group Dinner (B,L)
We head to Croatia's second-largest city, the seaside city of Split, which is a great place to see Dalmation life as it's really lived. En route we will have a chance to stretch our legs when we stop for lunch. Once in Split, we will enjoy a walking tour of this exuberant place. It has just the right balance of tradition and modernity. Life in Split has continued for thousands of years and the city has been under Roman, Venetian, Austrian, French, Italian and Yugoslav control. Sites such as Diocletian's Palace and Mausoleum, one of the world’s most impressive Roman monuments, the Grgur Ninski Statue and the Cathedral and Bell Tower of St. Domnius justify its position as a UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site. Overnight Split - 2 nights
Friday, 11 September 2026: Day Trip to Trogir - 2300 Years Old! (B,L)
Today we head to a town with more than 2,300 years of tradition. Trogir is one of the oldest cities on the Adriatic coast and is beautifully situated within medieval walls. It’s fronted by a wide seaside promenade lined with cafes. This tiny town is a center of artistic activities in Croatia. Its rich culture was created under the influence of Greeks, Romans and Venetians. This abundance of Roman and Renaissance architecture, combined with a magnificent cathedral, earned Trogir UNESCO World Heritage status in 1997. We'll return to Split mid-afternoon where the remainder of the day is at leisure.
Saturday, 12 September 2026: Krka National Park; Vineyard Stop; Travel to Opatija (B,O)
This morning we're off to Krka National Park, named for the Krka River that flows through it. The top attraction is the magnificent waterfalls, including the Skradinski Buk Falls, one of Croatia’s most famous sights. We'll take time to walk the wooden pathways throughout and enjoy this lovely setting. Since we're in wine country, we'll stop at a local winery, located in the hills near Skradin across the Adriatic from Italy and roughly in line with the wine region of Tuscany. Winemakers here are striving to bring the wines of Skradin to international prominence. We continue on to the seaside town of Opatija, sometimes referred to as “Croatian Monte Carlo.” In the 19th century, Austro-Hungarian noblemen built spacious villas and wintered here. Overnight Opatija - 2 nights
Sunday, 13 September 2026: Day Excursion to Pula; Olive Oil Tasting; Tour Rovinj (B,L)
Our excursion to the Istrian Peninsula begins in Pula, a Roman colony from the 1st century BC. Today it is a busy commercial port town with a friendly small-town appeal. On arrival, we explore the town, including the entrance to a Roman Amphitheatre built to accommodate 22,000 spectators. We'll also stop at the House of Istrian Olive Oil to learn more about the history of olive oil and have a taste. We continue to Rovinj, one of the most photographed cities in Croatia. We have lunch together before having personal time to explore this beautiful town. We return to Opatija at the conclusion.
Monday, 14 September 2026: Postojna Caves; Travel to Ljubljana, Slovenia (B)
We depart this morning for the neighboring country of Slovenia where our first stop is the Postojna Caves, the largest European underground cave system. We'll enjoy a unique and adventurous ride aboard a small electric train that shepherds us through this amazing underground world carved by the Pivka river and its vast web of galleries, tunnels and magnificent halls. We then make our way to Ljubljana, the compact capital city of Slovenia. After checking in to our hotel, we'll embark on a walking tour of this pedestrian-friendly urban gem. Overnight Ljubljana - 2 nights
Tuesday, 15 September 2026: Lake Bled; Boat Ride & Island Visit (B,L)
Today, we head for Bled, a Slovenian resort town well-known for its immense natural beauty and picturesque mountains, emerald-green lakes, and the longest swimming season of any alpine resort. On a cliff overlooking the lake is the 11th-century Bled Castle and atop the country's only islet in the lake's center is the Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of Maria (also known as Our Lady of the Lake). Climb the steep staircase if you dare and ring the "bell of wishes." Legend states that those who ring the bell and make a wish will see their wish come true. We return to Ljubljana this evening.
Wednesday, 16 September 2026: Travel to Venice via Miramare Castle (B)
Today we say good-bye to the Balkans as we head northward to Italy for the final leg of our journey. En route, we will visit Miramare Castle, a majestic royal home in the 19th century which overlooks the sea and is surrounded by a huge park full of rare and exotic tree species. Our final destination is the captivating city of Venice. Built on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic, Venice's unique quality is its canal system. Even if you've visited before, wandering the back streets of this destination and standing in the main plaza is always a treat. Overnight Venice - 2 nights
Thursday, 17 September 2026: Venice Walking Tour; Free Time; Farewell Dinner (B,D)
We begin our day discovering the secrets of Venice, with a walking tour of the city's highlights including St. Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco), St. Mark's Basilica and the Bell Tower. Known as one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Europe, we will enter St Mark's Cathedral to view the interior of this impressive religious site. Then the rest of the day is yours to enjoy as you wish. It is the opportune time to take a gondola ride and lazily ply the canals that make up Venice or shop to your heart's content. Accompany your Tour Leader on her itinerary or strike out on your own. We regroup this evening to celebrate our incredible journey at a Farewell Dinner.
Friday, 18 September 2026: Return Home from Venice (B)
Sadly our visit to the Adriatic wonderland of Croatia, Montenegro, Slovenia and Italy is over. Schedule your return flight at your convenience. The WTT Tour Leader can assist in arranging ride-sharing to the airport based on flight departure times.

What do others say about this tour and traveling with WTT?
How Does Room Sharing Work?
On the Reservation Form there are 3 choices regarding room-sharing.
Note: Certain room-types may be unavailable at the time you make your reservation. If a room-type is unavailable the choice will be greyed out.
- Select "Yes, I want to share a room" and WTT will assign you a roommate when Final Travel Instructions are sent.
- You can specify a roommate by entering her name where indicated. If your named roommate is not on the tour, for any reason, WTT will assign you a roommate unless you pay to have your own room, if available.
- Select "No, I do not wish to share a room" if you want to have your own room. Additional costs apply.
- All shared rooms have 2 beds
- All shared rooms are non-smoking
- No special requests about your roommate can be accommodated
- See "Frequently Asked Questions" TAB for more details

Your Responsibilities as a Solo Traveler
As a solo traveler you are responsible for yourself, your possessions, your physical fitness, and all other aspects related to participation in the WTT tour you have chosen. Be sure to read the itinerary closely to better understand the physical requirements necessary for the tour.
WTT tours are not suitable for anyone whose mobility is challenged or compromised. If you struggle with walking, standing or negotiating stairs or if you are in doubt as to your ability to meet the physical activity requirements, you should not sign up for this trip.
What is the Group Size?
You will be introduced to the WTT Tour Leader when you receive your Final Travel Instructions, about 2-3 weeks before the tour begins.
Learn about your fellow travelers after final payment by visiting MyWTT. Room sharing assignments will be listed in the Final Travel Instructions.
What meals are included and how are dietary restrictions accommodated?
Each day of the itinerary lists the included meals for that day. When a meal is not included, the WTT Tour Leader will have suggestions for where to eat.
You do not have to dine alone unless it is your personal choice. You'll most likely be dining with new acquaintances you've made, or you can join the Tour Leader.
Dietary Restrictions on International Tours: WTT has limited to no control over food selections or variety from meal-to-meal, especially at hotels. While we do our best to accommodate dietary restrictions and ensure variety of options, we cannot guarantee either.
What clothing and items should I pack for this trip?
In general the temperature, rainfall and humidity levels vary based on the time of the year. We suggest you monitor weather apps leading up to the time you depart for the most current information.
For This Trip You May Want—
- Shoes that are comfortable for walking
- Refillable water bottle
- Smart-casual wear if you'd like to dress up a bit for dinners
- Lightweight but warm jacket/sweater for the cool mornings and evenings or the unusually brisk day
- Inexpensive rain poncho or travel umbrella, just in case
Good Packing Habits—
- Bring what you need to get a good night's sleep, such as ear plugs, white noise generator, sleeping aids, etc. Unfamiliar noises of all types can disrupt your rest.
- Pack a limited amount of comfortable, casual clothing that layer and coordinate. Your fellow travelers will not mind or even notice – seeing you in the same clothing.
- Bring only two pairs of everyday shoes: one pair of well-broken-in walking shoes, and a second pair that could do double-duty as a walking shoe or a slightly dressy shoe.
- Pare down your beauty regimen to the bare minimum and always pack travel-sized toiletries.
- Pack medication in your carry-on and pack only as much as needed for the duration of your tour plus a few extra days as a precaution.
What are the luggage restrictions for this tour?
On every WTT tour, our policies regarding luggage restrictions are driven by the physical space limitations of the vehicles we use and the requirement that all travelers be able to manage their own belongings without assistance.
- It is best to travel as lightly as possible. Most travelers regret when they have packed too much.
- Bring only one suitcase, preferably no larger than 26 inches high as measured from the FLOOR to the top of the retracted handle.
- Our transport to Venice is by private boat, which restricts luggage to one piece per person. Any extra piece of luggage must be paid on the spot by the traveler. The extra cost at time of publication was estimated as €8 per piece with a maximum of 3 extra pieces per boat.
- You are responsible for managing your own belongings. Upon your arrival in Venice, you will need to take your own luggage from the boat dock to the hotel (a 5-minute walk).
- We expect you to be able to take your belongings from the coach to your room and to bring it back to the coach on days we change hotels. We do not provide luggage pulls; they are not safe and are inconvenient.
- Steps exist at most hotel entrances. On occasion the coach must unload passengers and luggage some distance from the hotel entrance.
What are the phone and internet recommendations for this tour?
- You should understand what your current cell phone plan includes in terms of data and minutes. Some, like certain T-Mobile plans, include an international package.
- Contact your cell phone service provider before departing about adding an international calling plan. Most carriers have flat daily rates which will allow your US-based phone to be functional upon arrival in a foreign country.
- Managing data while traveling internationally is important. Using WiFi when available and communicating through apps like What's App help you manage data usage while traveling.
- Learn how to make an international call BEFORE you leave. Consult your cell provider and check out the website www.HowtoCallAbroad.com.
What are the electricity requirements for this tour?
How much money should I bring on this tour?
Only you can determine the amount of cash you will need on tour. Be sure to keep cash on hand for sharing restaurant tabs, cabs, tips, and smaller purchases. More and more, restaurants are no longer allowing groups to split the bill. Therefore, you might want to have cash-on-hand for meals on your own when dining with others in the group.
- The official currency used throughout this tour is the Euro.
- ATMs are typically the best way of obtaining local currency; they are found in most airports and tourist destinations. ATMS of major banks often give much better exchange rates than currency-exchange kiosks.
- If using a debit card, it is good practice to limit the amount of cash available in the account and simply transfer money from another account if you need more at any point on tour. Always use caution when withdrawing money.
- Many travelers feel more comfortable having local currency before they depart for the tour. You can order local currency from your bank or AAA.
- Notify your credit card issuer that you will be traveling and provide dates of travel.
- Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted, although many cards charge a foreign transaction fee. Be sure to investigate your card of choice as there are many that do not impose these fees and are better suited for international travel.
- If a merchant gives you the choice between making your transaction in USD or the local currency, always choose the local currency, to avoid dynamic currency conversion which includes a conversion fee.
What are the tipping guidelines for this tour?
All tips to local guides who join the tour to lead individual activities, as well as drivers, will be paid on your behalf.
- You are responsible for Tipping the In-Country Escort who travels with the group. Consider Euro 50-70.
- We suggest you read up on tipping culture in the various places you will be visiting so you can show your appreciation for any personal service provided with an appropriate gratuity.
- Tipping in Croatia: For restaurant meals 10% tip is sufficient. If you find the service particularly wonderful you can increase. Try to have cash for tipping as sometimes the tips never get back to the server if left on a credit card. For bars, cafes, taxis or other services, tipping is not expected but is welcome. For these you can round up your bill.
- Tipping in Italy: Fees are automatically added to the bill and must be visible on the menu. Normally, just round up the bill a few Euro if you were provided outstanding service. For bars or cafes it's sufficient to leave behind the change if you want to tip. For a regular taxi ride you can round up to the nearest euro.
- You may want to tip your WTT Tour Leader for an outstanding job. The amount is entirely a personal preference. If you'd like a guideline, consider $8-$10 per day.
