Activity
Read more about WTT Activity Levels
- 70% Easy
- 30% Moderate (boat rides, dog carting, remoteness)
Walking is a key component of all WTT tours. On some days, between walking tours and personal exploration you can expect to walk 3-5 miles over the course of a day, often over uneven or unpaved terrain. Although the activity level on this trip may not appear strenuous, we believe you will enjoy the tour more if you possess a general level of fitness and endurance.
Your Responsibilities as a Solo Traveler
As a solo traveler you are responsible for yourself, your possessions, your physical fitness, and all other aspects related to participation in the WTT tour you have chosen. Be sure to read the itinerary closely to better understand the physical requirements necessary for the tour.
WTT tours are not suitable for anyone whose mobility is challenged or compromised. If you struggle with walking, standing or negotiating stairs or if you are in doubt as to your ability to meet the physical activity requirements, you should not sign up for this trip.
Itinerary
Wednesday, 19 August 2026: Arrive Winnipeg, Manitoba; Welcome Meeting
Arrive in Winnipeg at your convenience and make your way to our hotel, which is a short walk from the airport. Go explore or relax before the tour begins at 6:00pm in the lobby of our hotel with our Welcome Meeting to get better acquainted and discuss our upcoming adventure. Overnight Winnipeg - 1 night
Thursday, 20 August 2026: Fly to Churchill; Churchill Tour; Beluga Zodiac Tour (B,L,D)
The adventure begins with an early morning charter flight from Winnipeg to the remote frontier town of Churchill. Nestled on the Hudson Bay's shores, the area has more than 4,000 years of human history. Upon arrival, we'll enjoy a guided bus tour exploring Churchill, taking us past some of the local and historical points of interest, including the iconic "Miss Piggy" cargo plane wreck from 1979 and the Manitoba Conservation's Polar Bear Holding Facility (affectionately known as polar bear jail). After lunch, prepare for the day's crown jewel: a Beluga Zodiac Tour. These sturdy inflatable boats glide through the estuary where we witness the world's largest population of beluga whales up close. Keep your cameras ready—polar bears often swim ashore this season, seeking refuge on the rocky coastline as sea ice melts, creating unforgettable wildlife viewing opportunities. Overnight Churchill - 4 nights
Friday, 21 August 2026: Itsanitaq Museum; Beluga Excursion; Prince of Wales Fort Tour (B,L,D)
After breakfast at a local restaurant, we'll visit the Itsanitaq Museum. The museum provides essential context for understanding the deep cultural connections between the Inuit people and this Arctic landscape we're exploring. This intimate space features indigenous history and art, housing one of Canada's finest collections of Inuit carvings, traditional kayaks, and artifacts. We'll then return to the water for our second beluga whale excursion. Across the water lies the Prince of Wales Fort National Historic Site. We'll take a walking tour of this historic site. As Canada's oldest and most northerly stone fort, it offers insight into centuries of northern history. We'll enjoy dinner together at a local restaurant.
Saturday, 22 August 2026: Parks Canada Visitor Centre; Wildlife Tundra Buggy Excursion; Cultural Presentation (B,L,D)
We begin at the Parks Canada Visitor Centre, housed in Churchill's historic train station, where immersive exhibits bring the region's past to life. Step through thousands of years of human history as detailed wildlife dioramas reveal how the indigenous Wapusk peoples thrived in this challenging landscape. This afternoon, we'll board a Tundra Buggy® with picnic lunches in hand, giving us the freedom to enjoy a leisurely day of wildlife viewing. These specially engineered all-terrain vehicles are designed to navigate the delicate northern landscape without damage. Tundra Buggys are equipped with washroom facilities and viewing platforms, providing the safest and most effective way to observe wildlife. After dinner together, a local resident will share personal insights into Churchill's realities of life in this remote northern community, offering perspectives you won't find in any guidebook.
Sunday, 23 August 2026: Dog Carting Excursion; Optional Kayaking or Paddle Boarding (B,L,D)
Experience Churchill's mushing tradition this morning, with an authentic dog cart excursion hosted by a local dog expert. You'll meet an energetic team of northern dogs, each with their own personality, while learning about the centuries-old bond between mushers and their canine partners. Discover the traditional philosophy behind dog handling and hear captivating stories of life on the trail before enjoying a mile-long ride through the pristine boreal forest aboard a specially designed wheeled cart. You'll experience the same teamwork and rhythm that has carried people across this landscape for generations. After lunch together, the afternoon is yours to enjoy as you wish. Perhaps you'd like to unwind at the hotel. If you are feeling adventurous, consider a kayaking or paddle boarding session (at your own expense).
Monday, 24 August 2026: Polar Bears International House; Fly to Winnipeg (B,L)
Our Churchill adventure concludes with a visit to the Polar Bears International House, where we'll deepen our understanding of these remarkable Arctic animals. Interactive exhibits reveal the complex challenges polar bears face in a changing climate and showcase the dedicated conservation work being done to secure their future. This experience adds important context to all the wildlife encounters we've shared throughout our journey. We then board our flight back to Winnipeg and check into our airport hotel. The evening brings us together one final time where we can share favorite memories, and reflect on the extraordinary experiences that have connected us to Churchill's wild landscape. Overnight Winnipeg - 1 night
Tuesday, 25 August 2026: Return Home from Winnipeg
Sadly, our adventure has come to an end. Schedule your return flight at your convenience. It's a short walk back to the airport terminal.
The Tundra Buggy® will be private to WTT.

What do others say about this tour and traveling with WTT?
How Does Room Sharing Work?
Traveling Solo? 80% of the women on your tour will be traveling solo!
On the Reservation Form there are 3 choices regarding room-sharing.
Note: Certain room-types may be unavailable at the time you make your reservation. If a room-type is unavailable the choice will be greyed out.
- Select "Yes, I want to share a room" and WTT will assign you a roommate when Final Travel Instructions are sent.
- You can specify a roommate by entering her name where indicated. If your named roommate is not on the tour, for any reason, WTT will assign you a roommate unless you pay to have your own room, if available.
- Select "No, I do not wish to share a room" if you want to have your own room. Additional costs apply.
A few facts about sharing a room:
- All shared rooms have 2 beds
- All shared rooms are non-smoking
- No special requests about your roommate can be accommodated
- See "Frequently Asked Questions" TAB for more details

Your Responsibilities as a Solo Traveler
As a solo traveler you are responsible for yourself, your possessions, your physical fitness, and all other aspects related to participation in the WTT tour you have chosen. Be sure to read the itinerary closely to better understand the physical requirements necessary for the tour.
WTT tours are not suitable for anyone whose mobility is challenged or compromised. If you struggle with walking, standing or negotiating stairs or if you are in doubt as to your ability to meet the physical activity requirements, you should not sign up for this trip.
What is the Group Size?
You will be introduced to the WTT Tour Leader when you receive your Final Travel Instructions, about 2-3 weeks before the tour begins.
Learn about your fellow travelers after final payment by visiting MyWTT. Room sharing assignments will be listed in the Final Travel Instructions.
What meals are included and how are dietary restrictions accommodated?
Each day of the itinerary lists the included meals for that day (B,L,D,O=Other). When a meal is not included, the WTT Tour Leader will have suggestions for where to eat.
You do not have to dine alone unless it is your personal choice. You'll most likely be dining with new acquaintances you've made, or you can join the Tour Leader.
Dietary Restrictions: WTT has limited to no control over food selections or variety from meal-to-meal, especially at hotels. While we do our best to accommodate dietary restrictions and ensure variety of options, we cannot guarantee either. It is very difficult to accommodate special dietary needs on this tour as all supplies must be flown into Churchill. Lunches on board the Tundra Buggy usually include: soup, 2 choices of sandwiches (both meat-based), and cookies.
What clothing and items should I pack for this trip?
In general temperature can vary from 51˚F to 68˚F but often strong winds can make the temperature feel colder. The days are longer during July. You can expect approximately 16 hours of daylight. We suggest you monitor weather apps leading up to the time you depart for the most current information.
The ability to add and remove layers of clothing as the temperature warrants will enhance your comfort. Though we travel in the warmth of a Tundra Buggy®, temperatures can vary widely if the windows are open.
For This Trip You Will Need—
- Waterproof warm jacket, preferably hooded
- Nylon or waterproof pants
- Base layers such as short and long sleeve shirts, long pants, warm sweaters.
- Warm hat, scarf, gloves for night time
- Outdoor boots or hiking shoes
- A reusable water bottle is encouraged to keep the Tundra Buggies free from disposable water bottles and plastics that are difficult to recycle in this remote location.
- Hat & Sunglasses
- Bug repellent (during the summer months the mosquitos and black flies are very active)
You May Also Want—
- Binoculars
- Camera and extra camera batteries/memory card
- Water resistant day pack; a small backpack is a better option than a purse.
Good Packing Habits—
- Bring what you need to get a good night's sleep, such as ear plugs, white noise generator, sleeping aids, etc. Unfamiliar noises of all types can disrupt your rest.
- Pack a limited amount of comfortable, casual clothing that layer and coordinate. Your fellow travelers will not mind or even notice – seeing you in the same clothing.
- Bring only two pairs of everyday shoes: one pair of well-broken-in walking shoes, and a second pair that could do double-duty as a walking shoe or a slightly dressy shoe.
- Pare down your beauty regimen to the bare minimum and always pack travel-sized toiletries.
- Pack medication in your carry-on and pack only as much as needed for the duration of your tour plus a few extra days as a precaution.
What are the luggage restrictions for this tour?
On every WTT tour, our policies regarding luggage restrictions are driven by the physical space limitations of the vehicles we use, the requirement that all travelers be able to manage their own belongings without assistance and the restrictions imposed by other forms of transportation such as charter planes.
- It is best to travel as lightly as possible. Most travelers regret when they have packed too much.
- You may bring one suitcase plus a carry-on bag. There is limited storage on the plane between Winnipeg and Churchill and space is also limited in the transfer vehicles.
- Checked baggage for all flights must be limited to one piece per guest for a maximum total of 23kg (50lbs), and not be larger than 158cm (62in) (L+W+H). Each guest is allowed 2 carry-on, including personal items, for a maximum combined weight of 9kg (20lbs).
- The maximum dimensions permitted for carry on-baggage is 25cm x 40cm x 30cm or 10in x 16in x 12in. Carry on that exceeds these dimensions will be considered checked baggage and will have to be stored in the general baggage compartment.
- Space permitting and if able to be safely stowed, additional items such as coats, medication bag, a cane, CPAP etc. may be permitted in the cabin.
- Your airline carrier to Canada likely restricts checked luggage to 50 lbs.
- You are responsible for managing your own belongings. We expect you to be able to take your belongings from transport vehicles to your room and back.
What are the phone and internet recommendations for this tour?
Only you can determine your need to stay in contact while traveling.
- Your US cell phone will work in Canada but some cell providers charge roaming fees. Be sure to check with your cell provider before leaving home to see what plans they may offer to reduce the cost of using your phone outside the US. Some providers offer Canada-only plans at reasonable rates.
- When calling a Canadian number from your US cellphone, you will need to dial +1 before the area code.
How much money should I bring on this tour?
Only you can determine the optimum amount of cash to take on tour. When budgeting for out-of-pocket expenses, there are several aspects to consider: the number of meals you are responsible for, the amount of money you like to have on-hand for snacks and drinks and cash needed for tipping.
- Notify your credit card issuer that you will be traveling and provide dates of travel.
- Canada's official currency is the Canadian Dollar (CAD).
- ATMs are typically the best way of obtaining cash and Canadian Dollars can be withdrawn from any ATM in Canada. Consider exchanging currency or using the ATMs located in the Winnipeg airport upon arrival. We recommend you have Canadian dollars on hand before arriving Churchill. There is one readily accessible ATM near the post office in Churchill.
- Many places accept US dollars, however, expect your rate of exchange to be poor and change to be offered in CAD.
What are the tipping guidelines for this tour?
Tipping of the guides and Tundra Buggy drivers is included. If you would like, leave a small gratuity for hotel housekeeping and the servers at included meals.
You may want to tip your WTT Tour Leader for an outstanding job. The amount is entirely a personal preference.
