Itinerary
Monday, 13 July 2026: Arrive Vilnius, Lithuania; Welcome Dinner (D)
Schedule your flight into Vilnius, the capital city of Lithuania, to arrive no later than 3:30pm. Group transfers are provided from the airport to the hotel based on flight arrival times. Our tour begins at 5:30pm in the lobby of our hotel with our Welcome Meeting to get better acquainted. We then enjoy a traditional Lithuanian dinner. Overnight Vilnius - 2 nights
Tuesday, 14 July 2026: Tour of Vilnius Old Town; Afternoon at Leisure (B,D)
This morning we explore the narrow winding streets of the UNESCO-listed Old Town of Vilnius, one of the largest surviving medieval old towns in Northern Europe and second largest city in the Baltic States. Among the many sites we will see today, we'll also visit Vilnius Cathedral, the most important church in Lithuania, and the Gate of Dawn, the last remaining gate of the walled city. The remainder of the day is free to further explore this fascinating city. Your WTT Tour Leader will have suggestions of how to spend your time, or simply accompany her on her planned itinerary. This evening, we enjoy dinner together.
Wednesday, 15 July 2026: Museum of Occupation; Trakai City Tour & Castle Visit; Cooking Demo; (B,L)
Before leaving Vilnius, we will visit the Museum of Occupation and Freedom Fights, located in a former KGB prison. This museum serves as a powerful reminder of the 50-year Soviet occupation of Lithuania. It was established to educate current and future generations about this difficult and tragic period in the country's history. We head to Trakai, a town renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and the iconic Trakai Castle. The medieval castle, set on an island in Lake Galvė, was once the residence of Lithuania's Grand Dukes. We will reach the castle by crossing a scenic wooden bridge. For lunch, we will learn to prepare and savor a local dish of traditional Karaim cuisine. We then travel to Kaunas, Lithuania's second-largest city and a vital hub for the nation's culture and heritage. Overnight Kaunas - 1 night
Thursday, 16 July 2026: Kaunas Walking Tour; Castle Visit; "Book Smugglers" (B,L)
This morning we enjoy a short walking tour of Kaunas before having lunch together in town. We will hear stories about Kaunas Castle, a medieval fortress and learn why the Town Hall is often called the "White Swan". We then journey along the picturesque road near the Nemunas River, stopping at a castle and a museum to hear the fascinating and brave stories about "book smugglers." Lithuanian language books were banned from 1864-1904, but a secret network of underground smugglers transported books across the border in order to save the Lithuanian language. Our final destination today is Klaipeda, the only major seaport in Lithuania situated on the Baltic Sea. Overnight Klaipeda - 2 nights
Friday, 17 July 2026: Curonian Spit; Amber Museum; Sailing (B,D)
We'll explore the Curonian Spit, a 61-mile long, thin, curved sand dune that separates the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea. Declared a UNESCO Heritage site, the combination of nature and culture is significant. From the top of the hill, we'll take in panoramic views of the endless dunes on one side and lush pine forests on the other. We'll also see the Great Cormorants colony, home to over 6500 cormorants and grey herons, as well as Hill of Witches, a forested area featuring more than 100 carved wooden sculptures that bring Lithuanian folk tales to life. At the Amber Museum-Gallery, we will learn about Baltic amber. While you might recognize amber for its use in jewelry, you might not know that it’s also used to treat pain and inflammation. Later in the afternoon, we’ll set out on a sailing excursion, followed by a relaxing dinner at a local restaurant.
Saturday, 18 July 2026: Hill of Crosses; Group Lunch; Travel to Riga (B,L)
This morning we visit the legendary Hill of Crosses, one of Lithuania's most awe-inspiring sights. Often referred to as "the Mecca of Lithuania," this is a small hill adorned with a vast number of rosaries and crosses. The crosses were repeatedly bulldozed by the Soviets, but each night, Lithuanians crept past the guardpost to plant more crosses in an expression of national and religious protest. After enjoying a group lunch at a local farm, we travel on to Riga, the largest of the three Baltic capitals. Overnight Riga - 2 nights
Sunday, 19 July 2026: Riga Walking Tour; Free Afternoon (B,L)
Riga astounds travelers with its charming Old Town and impressive architecture. We start our walking tour in the Old Town where the highlights include the Riga Cathedral, City Hall and the Three Brothers House, the latter being old medieval homes built closely together. Be sure to look at the churches in Riga. They do not have crosses atop their spires but roosters instead, which according to tradition, scare the devil away. Not to be missed is the Freedom Monument, which is also known as the Latvian Statue of Liberty, honoring the soldiers killed in the War of Independence (1918-1920). We'll enjoy lunch together and then the remainder of the day is yours to relax or explore further.
Monday, 20 July 2026: Winery Visit; Turaida Castle; Travel to Tallinn, Estonia (B,L,D)
Today we travel to Estonia, the northernmost Baltic country which includes more than 1500 islands and islets. En route, we will stop at a family winery to taste local sweet wines. Instead of using grapes, Estonians use fruits, berries and flowers, such as dandelion, rhubarb, primrose, and blackcurrant. This leads to sweeter flavors than grape-based wine. As a result, Estonia has an extensive selection of dessert wines. Our next stop is the Turaida Castle built in 1214. This largely, renovated castle offers sweeping views over the Gauja River valley. We continue to the resort town of Pärnu, a medieval city and an Estonian summer getaway, to see the Tallinn Gate, which once defended the main road. We then proceed to Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. Upon arrival, we'll get settled at our hotel and then enjoy dinner together. Overnight Tallinn - 2 nights
Tuesday, 21 July 2026: Waterfall Walk; Folk Art & Workshop; Tallinn City Tour; Medieval Dinner (B,L,D)
We begin with a morning walk to a waterfall followed by a Folk Art workshop. Folk traditions are an important part of the Estonian national identity and we will have the opportunity to learn a bit more about the local culture with a workshop. After a light lunch, we stop at the Raeapteek Pharmacy Museum to learn the history of the pharmacy and medieval treating methods. We taste claret, a spiced pharmacy made wine before embarking on a walking tour of Tallinn. Stroll through the medieval cobblestone streets of the UNESCO-listed Old Town, considered to be the best-preserved medieval town in Northern Europe. We'll visit Upper Town—Toompea Hill—to see the "pink palace," an 18th-century addition to the Toompea Castle and the imposing onion-domed Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, and we'll listen to the stories and legends of this place so filled with history. We regroup for a Medieval Dinner this evening, where a feast of dishes based on 700-year old recipes will be served.
Wednesday, 22 July 2026: Ferry Ride to Helsinki, Finland; Free Time (B,L)
We say goodbye to Estonia and head to the ferry terminal for our next destination. The 50-mile ferry ride across the Baltic Sea to Finland takes about 2 hours. For the 8th consecutive year, Finland has been deemed the happiest country in the world by the UN's World Happiness Report. Put on your best smile! Upon arrival to Helsinki we enjoy lunch together. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy as you wish. Overnight Helsinki - 2 nights
Thursday, 23 July 2026: Helsinki City Tour; Free Afternoon; Farewell Dinner Cruise (B,D)
Helsinki is well-known for its innovative art, culture and architecture. After breakfast, we discover the city by foot and by coach learning more about Finnish culture while taking in the major buildings and sights. This tour includes Helsinki's architectural wonder, the Temppeliaukio Church also known as the Rock Church. The mix of concrete and granite coupled with color and copper everywhere make for an inspiring view. We also visit Market Square, known for its traditional food and treats, as well as handicrafts and souvenirs. There will be a stop at Fazer Cafe, one of Finland's oldest cafes known for its chocolate and sweets. The rest of the afternoon is free to enjoy as you wish. Your WTT Tour Leader will have suggestions of how to spend your time. This evening we will gather for a Farewell Dinner cruise along the shores of Helsinki. Enjoy the views while we recount our memories of our Baltics adventure.
Friday, 24 July 2026: Return Home from Helsinki (B)
Sadly, our time in the Baltic region and Finland has come to an end. Make your return flight at your convenience. Based on the departure time you provide WTT, your Tour Leader can assist with organizing travelers into small groups so you can ride-share to the airport if you wish.

How Does Room Sharing Work?
On the Reservation Form there are 3 choices regarding room-sharing.

- Select "Yes, I want to share a room" and WTT will assign you a roommate when Final Travel Instructions are sent.
- You can specify a roommate by entering her name where indicated. If your named roommate is not on the tour, for any reason, WTT will assign you a roommate unless you pay to have your own room, if available.
- Select "No, I do not wish to share a room" if you want to have your own room. Additional costs apply.
- All shared rooms have 2 beds
- All shared rooms are non-smoking
- No special requests about your roommate can be accommodated
- See "Frequently Asked Questions" TAB for more details

As a solo traveler you are responsible for yourself, your possessions, your physical fitness, and all other aspects related to participation in the WTT tour you have chosen. Be sure to read the itinerary closely to better understand the physical requirements necessary for the tour.
WTT tours are not suitable for anyone whose mobility is challenged or compromised. If you struggle with walking, standing or negotiating stairs or if you are in doubt as to your ability to meet the physical activity requirements, you should not sign up for this trip.
What is the Group Size?
You will be introduced to the WTT Tour Leader when you receive your Final Travel Instructions, about 2-3 weeks before the tour begins.
Learn about your fellow travelers after final payment by visiting MyWTT. Room sharing assignments will be listed in the Final Travel Instructions.
What meals are included and how are dietary restrictions accommodated?
Each day of the itinerary lists the included meals for that day (B,L,D,O). When a meal is not included, the WTT Tour Leader will have suggestions for where to eat.
You do not have to dine alone unless it is your personal choice. You'll most likely be dining with new acquaintances you've made, or you can join the Tour Leader.
Dietary Restrictions on International Tours: WTT has limited to no control over food selections or variety from meal-to-meal, especially at hotels. While we do our best to accommodate dietary requests and ensure variety of options, we cannot guarantee either.
What clothing and items should I pack for this trip?
Daytime temperatures are likely to be in the low to mid-70s but can possibly spike into the 80s at this time of year. Brief rainfall is common year-round. We suggest you monitor weather apps before you depart for the most current information.
For this Tour You May Want—
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Casual clothing that can be layered
- Smart-casual wear if you'd like to dress up a bit for dinners.
- Fleece jacket or sweater for cool mornings or the unusually brisk day
- Rain jacket
- Refillable water bottle
- Hat or visor, sunglasses, sunscreen
- Swimsuit — 2 hotels have saunas
- Eye Mask — Long days at this latitude can impact sleep
Good Packing Habits—
- Pack a limited amount of comfortable, casual clothing that layer and coordinate. Your fellow travelers will not mind or even notice – seeing you in the same clothing.
- Bring what you need to get a good night's sleep, such as ear plugs, white noise generator, sleeping pills, etc. Unfamiliar noises of all types can disrupt your rest.
- Bring only two pairs of everyday shoes: one pair of well-broken-in walking shoes, and a second pair that could do double-duty as a walking shoe or a slightly dressy shoe.
- Pare down your beauty regimen to the bare minimum and always pack travel-sized toiletries.
- Pack medication in your carry-on and pack only as much as needed for the duration of your tour plus a few extra days as a precaution.
What are the luggage restrictions for this tour?
On every WTT tour, our policies regarding luggage restrictions are driven by the physical space limitations of the vehicles we use, the requirement that all travelers be able to manage their own belongings without assistance and the restrictions imposed by other forms of transportation such as ferries.
- It is best to travel as lightly as possible. Most travelers regret when they have packed too much.
- You may bring one suitcase plus a carry-on bag.
- We recommend your suitcase be no larger than 26 inches high as measured from the FLOOR to the top of the retracted handle to make it easy for you to handle yourself.
- You are responsible for managing your own belongings. We expect you to take your belongings from the coach to your room and to bring them back to the coach on days we change hotels. We do not provide luggage pulls; they are not safe and are inconvenient.
- Steps exist at most hotel entrances. On occasion the coach must unload passengers and luggage some distance from the hotel entrance.
What are the phone and internet recommendations for this tour?
- You should understand what your current cell phone plan includes in terms of data and minutes. Some, like certain T-Mobile plans, include an international package.
- Contact your cell phone service provider before departing about adding an international calling plan. Most carriers have flat daily rates which will allow your US-based phone to be functional upon arrival in a foreign country.
- Managing data while traveling internationally is important. Using WiFi when available and communicating through apps like What's App help you manage data usage while traveling.
- Learn how to make an international call BEFORE you leave. Consult your cell provider and check out the website www.HowtoCallAbroad.com.
What are the electricity requirements for this tour?
How much money should I bring on this tour?
- The official currency for all countries on this tour is the Euro (€).
- ATMs are typically the best way of obtaining local currency; they are found in most airports and tourist destinations. ATMS of major banks often give much better exchange rates than currency-exchange kiosks. If using a debit card, it is good practice to limit the amount of cash available in the account and simply transfer money from another account if you need more at any point on tour. Always use caution when withdrawing money.
- Many travelers feel more comfortable having local currency before they depart for the tour. You can order local currency from your bank or AAA.
- Notify your credit card issuer that you will be traveling and provide dates of travel.
- Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted in the major towns, but in smaller towns you may find cash is preferred. Many cards charge a foreign transaction fee, so you will want to investigate your card of choice as there are many that do not impose these fees and are better suited for international travel.
- If a merchant gives you the choice between making your transaction in USD ($) or the local currency, always choose the local currency, to avoid dynamic currency conversion which includes a conversion fee.
What are the tipping guidelines for this tour?
- You are responsible for Tipping the English Speaking Guides who travel with the group. (Budget for Baltic + Finnish guides: €100 total)
- We suggest you read up on tipping culture in the various places you will be visiting so you can show your appreciation for any personal service provided with an appropriate gratuity.
- Tipping is not ingrained in the Baltic or Finnish culture but is appreciated nonetheless. For good service at a restaurant, consider leaving no more than 10%.
- You may want to tip your WTT Tour Leader for an outstanding job. The amount is entirely a personal preference. If you'd like a guideline, consider $8-$10 per day.
