Itinerary
Monday, 24 August 2026: Arrive Portland, Maine; Welcome Dinner (D)
Schedule your arrival into Portland, Maine, no later than 4:00pm and take local transportation to the hotel. The tour begins at 6:00pm in the lobby of the hotel. Our Welcome Meeting will be followed by dinner to get acquainted and discuss our upcoming adventure. Overnight Portland - 2 nights
Tuesday, 25 August 2026: Portland City Tour; Portland Head Light (B,L)
This morning we explore Portland. Located on the Casco Bay peninsula, this city is known for it's natural beauty and rich maritime history. To get the lay of the land, we'll take a walking tour to learn more about the history of this important city. This afternoon, we are off to visit to the most photographed lighthouse in America. The Portland Head Light, commissioned by George Washington, is situated at the entrance to one of Maine's busiest shipping channels and has protected ships since the late 1700s. There will be time to visit the fascinating museum and walk the footpaths in the adjacent Fort Williams Park for stellar coastal views and great vantage points from which to photograph the lighthouse.
Wednesday, 26 August 2026: Scenic Drive to Bar Harbor; Stop in Camden (B)
Today we are headed northeast along the spectacular coast of Maine, one of America's most scenic road trips. After a quick stop in Freeport, home to LLBean, we make our way along Route 1 to Camden, an upscale seaside community with breathtaking estates and mansions dotting the hills. Its town motto is "where the mountains meet the sea," and it is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful places in all of New England. We continue to Bar Harbor and check into our hotel. The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle into the downtown area for anyone with energy to go exploring. There are several walking trails near the hotel also. Overnight Bar Harbor - 3 nights
Thursday, 27 August 2026: Lobster Boat Cruise, Free Time; Group Dinner (B,D)
We begin our day with a unique experience, a ride aboard a working lobster boat around picturesque Bar Harbor. Enjoy the breeze and the smell of the sea while learning all about lobster harvesting, one of Maine's most important industries. There may even be an opportunity for you to handle these crustaceans and assist in other ways if you're game. We'll be back in the town of Bar Harbor by lunch time and the remainder of the afternoon is free to explore this cute coastal town. The rock-bound coast and soaring granite cliffs add to the magic of this community. We will regroup for dinner together this evening.
Friday, 28 August 2026: Acadia National Park (B)
We spend today exploring the beauty and diversity of Acadia National Park, the first National Park established in the Eastern US. Acadia has 130 miles of hiking trails, so there is a path for everyone. Our first stop is the Visitors Center to get our bearings; then, we'll drive the Park Loop, stopping at various points of interest along the way. We travel along the Cadillac Summit Road to take in views from the highest point in the eastern US (pending ticket availability). This afternoon you may want to stroll along the paved Cadillac Summit Loop Trail, which offers beautiful views of the surrounding areas, and try to spot the "bar" that gave the town its name. After a full day, the evening is free to wander about Bar Harbor and find the perfect restaurant to dine in.
Saturday, 29 August 2026: Return to Portland; Farewell Dinner (B,D)
After breakfast, we begin the return drive to Portland. This time, we'll stop in Rockland, a quintessential Maine coastal town known for its lobster fishing and deep protected harbor. Its downtown features great architecture in its historic homes and shops. Enjoy time to walk around town and stretch your legs. After our stop here, we'll continue into Portland, where after checking into our airport-area hotel, we will have time to rest before gathering for our Farewell Dinner this evening. Overnight Portland Airport Area - 1 night
Sunday, 30 August 2026: Return Home from Portland, ME (B)
Sadly, our time together has come to an end. Schedule your departure from Portland at your convenience. Your Tour Leader can assist with ride-share coordination based on flight departure times.

What clothing and items should I pack for this trip?
In general the temperature, rainfall and humidity levels vary based on the time of the year. We suggest you monitor weather apps leading up to the time you depart for the most current information.
For This Trip, You Will Need—
- A warm jacket, such as fleece and windbreaker, for cool mornings and time spent on the water.
You May Also Want —
- Hiking shoes or shoes w/ good tread if you plan to hike any trails in Acadia.
- binoculars
- Refillable water bottle
- a swimsuit for the hotel pools
- Sea sickness bands/medication for the Lobster Cruise.
Good Packing Habits—
- Bring what you need to get a good night's sleep, such as ear plugs, white noise generator, sleeping aids, etc. Unfamiliar noises of all types can disrupt your rest.
- Pack a limited amount of comfortable, casual clothing that layer and coordinate. Your fellow travelers will not mind or even notice – seeing you in the same clothing.
- Bring only two pairs of everyday shoes: one pair of well-broken-in walking shoes, and a second pair that could do double-duty as a walking shoe or a slightly dressy shoe.
- Pare down your beauty regimen to the bare minimum and always pack travel-sized toiletries.
- Pack medication in your carry-on and pack only as much as needed for the duration of your tour plus a few extra days as a precaution.
What are the luggage restrictions for this tour?
We will use the WTT Coach. Luggage restrictions are driven by the physical space limitations of this vehicle and the requirement that all travelers be able to manage their own belongings without assistance.
- It is best to travel as lightly as possible. Most travelers regret when they have packed too much.
- You may bring one suitcase plus small shoulder bag/day pack/purse.
- Maximum suitcase size: 22-23 inches in height. This is the size of bag that fits into the overhead bins of aircraft. Suitcases larger than this will not fit properly in the WTT coach; don't bring them.
- The weight of your bag should not exceed 30 pounds as you will need to lift it into the coach luggage compartment.
- You are responsible for managing your own belongings. We expect you to take your belongings from the coach to your room and to bring it back to the coach and load it on days we change hotels. We do not provide luggage pulls; they are not safe and are inconvenient. The possibility of steps exist at most hotel entrances.
How much money should I bring on this tour?
What are the tipping guidelines for this tour?
- You are responsible for tipping waitstaff, porters, or other individuals who provide a service to you at the hotel, or other public locations.
- You may want to tip your WTT Tour Leader for an outstanding job. The amount is entirely a personal preference. If you'd like a guideline, consider $8-$10 per day.
