London and Paris in the Fall
A Cultural Journey
Traveling to London and Paris is like stepping into two of the most culturally and historically rich cities in the world. In fact, six of London’s most significant cultural landmarks are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. We traverse these two cities on the high-speed Eurostar Train, which whisks us under the English Channel. For centuries Paris has been a flourishing cultural capital with its hundreds of museums, galleries and churches that grace nearly every part of the city. We'll visit the highlights of the city, taking in the Louvre, lunching at the Eiffel Tower, visiting Versailles and taking an evening cruise on the River Seine.

Itinerary
Monday, 23 September 2024: Arrive London; City Sightseeing Tour; Welcome Dinner at Local Pub (D)
Schedule your arrival into London no later than 10:00am and take provided transfer to the hotel. We begin at 1:15PM in the hotel lobby with our Welcome Meeting. Directly after, we will depart for our city sightseeing and orientation tour. We will see iconic sights such as the Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, Piccadilly Circus, St. Paul's Cathedral and Tower Bridge. This is a tour primarily by coach, but we will make a stop for a short walking tour as there are some places the coach cannot reach. Upon return to the hotel we will enjoy a light dinner at a local pub this evening. Overnight London - 4 nights
Tuesday, 24 September 2024: Tower of London; Westminster Abbey; Afternoon Tea (B,O)
The most expedient way of getting around London is via the London Underground (subway), more commonly referred to as the Tube. And that's exactly how we'll traverse the city today on foot and via the underground, taking in two of London's four UNESCO World Heritage sites. We begin at the Tower of London to glimpse the crown jewels. We then head to Westminster Abbey, one of the world's great churches and an architectural masterpiece of the 13th to 16th centuries. Today, it's a living pageant of British history, site of every Coronation since 1066 and where 17 monarchs are buried. The Abbey also showcases Britain's most celebrated scientists, writers, thinkers and politicians. Later we enjoy afternoon tea, the quintessential English experience and the perfect way to end our day. This is a good evening to schedule a show in the West End (London's equivalent to Broadway) if you're so inclined.
Wednesday, 25 September 2024: Free Day in London (B)
Today is your day to experience aspects of London that most appeal to you. So many of London's museums and galleries are free of charge. You may want to visit the world-famous British Museum or peruse modern art at the Tate. Or maybe you simply want to poke around Harrods, arguably the world's most famous department store. You can even book a day trip to Stonehenge. Your WTT Tour Leader will have a sightseeing itinerary if you wish to spend the day with her.
Thursday, 26 September 2024: Windsor Castle and Town of Windsor (B)
This morning we travel through the English countryside to Windsor Castle, home of the British royal family for more than 900 years, and the late Queen's favorite weekend retreat. The castle was built in the 11th century after the Norman invasion and is the world's oldest and largest occupied castle. It is steeped in royal history and antique furnishings. We'll see the gothic St. George's Chapel, one of the most beautiful and impressive buildings in England and the final resting place for 10 monarchs. After visiting the castle, enjoy time exploring the town. We'll return to London late this afternoon.
Friday, 27 September 2024: Eurostar Train to Paris; City Sightseeing; Seine River Cruise (B,D)
We get an early start this morning to catch the Eurostar train to Paris this morning for an enjoyable 2 1/2-hour journey that takes us under the English Channel and emerges in the French countryside before terminating in Paris. Upon arrival, we'll embark on a panoramic sightseeing tour of the iconic sites and you'll soon see why Paris is regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Afterward, we check-in to our centrally located hotel and have time to relax and freshen up before we enjoy a light and casual dinner together. Later this evening, we'll see Paris from the Seine. Many historic landmarks line the river and a plethora of bridges span it, some of which are centuries old and designated as historical heritage sites in their own right. Overnight Paris - 4 nights
Saturday, 28 September 2024: Musee de L'Orangerie; Lunch @ the Eiffel Tower; Free Afternoon (B,L)
This morning we're off to visit the Musee de L'Orangerie, a small art gallery housing impressionist and post-impressionist paintings. We are here to see the large canvas murals painted by Claude Monet. Seeing Monet's huge Water Lilies panels today will provide us with a better framework when we visit Monet's Gardens tomorrow. After our visit here, we'll make our way by Paris Metro to the Eiffel Tower to lunch at the newly renovated restaurant on the second floor of the tower. The views from here are outstanding and the experience a must-do! This afternoon is then yours to further explore Paris. You might opt to visit additional world-class museums like the Musee d'Orsay or the Rodin Museum. Or perhaps stroll along the Champs-Elysees to the Arc de Triomphe where from the top you get one of the best views of Paris. There is no shortage of interesting things to do and see and your Tour Leader will be able to provide additional suggestions of how to spend this time.
Sunday, 29 September 2024: Monet's Garden; The Palace of Versailles (B)
Our day begins with a drive into the French countryside to Giverny to see the gardens that inspired French Impressionist painter Claude Monet. After time for lunch on your own, we'll re-board the coach for the hour's drive to the Palace of Versailles, the center of political power in France under Louis XIV. The breathtaking chateau features the King’s Grand Apartments, the Museum of the History of France and the Hall of Mirrors, where the Treaty of Versailles ending the First World War was ratified. We return to Paris late this afternoon. This is a long but rewarding day.
Monday, 30 September 2024: The Louvre; Free Afternoon; Farewell Dinner (B,D)
This morning, we begin our day together with a guided tour at the Louvre, originally a royal palace and now the world's largest art museum featuring famous works, including the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo. The rest of the day is yours. We recognize that some can spend all day in the vast halls of the Louvre and others prefer to minimize their museum experience. Your WTT Tour Leader will offer suggestions on how to maximize this day. There is so much to do here, you won't be bored! We end our adventure with a Farewell Dinner tonight at a local restaurant.
Tuesday, 01 October 2024: Return Home from Paris (B)
Sadly, our time together has come to an end. Schedule your departure at your convenience. Based on the departure time you provide WTT, your Tour Leader will organize travelers into small groups so you can ride-share to the airport if you wish. You can also take the Air France airport bus or ride the RER suburban train.

What do others say about this tour and traveling with WTT?
How Does Room Sharing Work?
On the Reservation Form there are 3 choices regarding room-sharing.
Note: Certain room-types may be unavailable at the time you make your reservation. If a room-type is unavailable the choice will be greyed out.
- Select "Yes, I want to share a room" and WTT will assign you a roommate when Final Travel Instructions are sent.
- You can specify a roommate by entering her name where indicated. If your named roommate is not on the tour, for any reason, WTT will assign you a roommate unless you pay to have your own room, if available.
- Select "No, I do not wish to share a room" if you want to have your own room. Additional costs apply.
- All shared rooms have 2 beds
- All shared rooms are non-smoking
- No special requests about your roommate can be accommodated
- See "Frequently Asked Questions" TAB for more details
How Active is this Tour?
Because of this requirement, WTT tours are not suitable for anyone who is physically challenged, walking impaired, or is a slow walker that cannot keep up with the pace of the group.
In addition to the minimum requirements, the specific activities on this tour require a lot of walking, averaging 5 miles over the course of most days. In addition, the tour uses subways and trains, which require the ability to navigate multiple flights of stairs and board and exit the cars quickly and expeditiously.
The activities on this tour are rated as follows:
- 60% Easy
- 40% Moderate (walking, stair-climbing)
If you are in doubt as to your ability to meet the physical activity requirements, you should not sign up for this trip.

What meals are included and how are dietary restrictions accommodated?
- Breakfast daily
- 1 Lunch
- 1 Afternoon Tea
- 3 Dinners
Selections for the included lunches and dinners will highlight the local cuisine. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dietary requests can be accommodated on this tour with limited selections.
What clothing and items should I pack for this trip?
In September the temperatures in London are likely to be in the upper 60s during the day, falling to mid-50s overnight. The chance is high that you will see some rain during your stay. Paris is likely to be warmer with temperatures into the 70s during the daytime, and less chance of rain.
For This Trip You May Want—
- Clothing that easily layers for warmth
- Lightweight rain jacket or travel umbrella
- Smart-casual wear if you'd like to dress up a bit for dinners
Good Packing Habits—
- Bring what you need to get a good night's sleep, such as ear plugs, white noise generator, sleeping aids, etc. Unfamiliar noises of all types can disrupt your rest.
- Pack a limited amount of comfortable, casual clothing that layer and coordinate. Your fellow travelers will not mind or even notice – seeing you in the same clothing.
- Bring only two pairs of everyday shoes: one pair of well-broken-in walking shoes, and a second pair that could do double-duty as a walking shoe or a slightly dressy shoe.
- Pare down your beauty regimen to the bare minimum and always pack travel-sized toiletries.
- Pack medication in your carry-on and pack only as much as needed for the duration of your tour plus a few extra days as a precaution.
What are the luggage restrictions for this tour?
- It is best to travel as lightly as possible. Most travelers regret when they have packed too much.
- You may bring one suitcase plus a carry-on bag/purse.
- The Eurostar train restricts luggage size to 33 inches (85 cm) at its widest point. You must be able to lift and carry your own luggage on to the train.
- We recommend your suitcase be no larger than 26 inches high as measured from the FLOOR to the top of the retracted handle to make it easy for you to handle yourself.
- You are responsible for managing your own belongings. We expect you to take your belongings from the coach to your room and to bring it back to the coach on days we change hotels. We do not provide luggage pulls; they are not safe and are inconvenient.
- Steps exist at hotel entrances and to board trains.
What are the phone and internet recommendations for this tour?
- You should understand what your current cell phone plan includes in terms of data and minutes. Some, like certain T-Mobile plans, include an international package.
- Contact your cell phone service provider before departing about adding an international calling plan. Most carriers have flat daily rates which will allow your US-based phone to be functional upon arrival in a foreign country.
- Managing data while traveling internationally is important. Using WiFi when available and communicating through apps like What's App help you manage data usage while traveling.
- Learn how to make an international call BEFORE you leave. Consult your cell provider and check out the website www.HowtoCallAbroad.com.
What are the electricity requirements for this tour?
The standard voltage of 230V in England and France differs from that in North America. Electrical sockets in England are Type G, which is the plug that has three rectangular pins in a triangular pattern. In France, outlets use plug type C which has two round pins. Given the various plug types encountered on this tour, you may wish to purchase a universal plug adapter which supports a wide variety of sockets/plugs.
You should also check your electronic devices for voltage compatibility. Most of today's electronics (tablets, laptops, phone chargers etc.) are multi-voltage and will work worldwide, without a converter. Consult your owner's manual for further details.
How much money should I bring on this tour?
Only you can determine the optimum amount of cash to take on tour. When budgeting for out-of-pocket expenses, there are several aspects to consider: whether the country you are visiting is a cash-based society, the number of meals you are responsible for, your individual shopping interests and habits, and tipping expectations.
- The official currency of London is the Pound Sterling (GBP) and in Paris, it's the Euro (EUR).
- Many travelers feel more comfortable having local currency before they depart for the tour. You can order local currency from your bank or AAA, those can take a few days.
- ATMs are typically the best way of obtaining local currency; they are found in most airports and tourist destinations. ATMs of major banks often give much better exchange rates than currency-exchange kiosks.
- If using a debit card, it is good practice to limit the amount of cash available in the account and simply transfer money from another account if you need more at any point on tour. Always use caution when withdrawing money.
- Notify your credit card issuer that you will be traveling and provide dates of travel.
- If a merchant gives you the choice between making your transaction in USD or the local currency, always choose the local currency, to avoid dynamic currency conversion which includes a conversion fee.
- Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted, although many cards charge a foreign transaction fee. Be sure to investigate your card of choice as there are many that are better suited for international travel.
What are the tipping guidelines for this tour?
- We suggest you read up on tipping culture in the various places you will be visiting so you can show your appreciation for any personal service provided with an appropriate gratuity.
- In London, most restaurants and pubs will include a service charge on the bill. If there is no service charge you should tip for good service. An appropriate amount would be 10-15 percent of the total. It is polite to round up your taxi fare to the nearest pound. And, if you receive excellent service at a hotel, a small tip is appreciated.
- In Paris, service is already factored into any restaurant price. However, it's customary to leave something small. If you receive assistance translating a menu or have special requests for the kitchen, consider tipping more.
- You may want to tip your WTT Tour Leader for an outstanding job. The amount is entirely a personal preference. If you'd like a guideline, consider $8-$10 per day.
