Schedule your arrival no later than 4:00pm and take local transportation to the hotel. The tour will begin at the hotel at 6:00pm with our Welcome Meeting, followed by dinner to get acquainted and discuss our upcoming days. Overnight Kalispell - 2 nights
Thursday, 27 August 2020: Going-to-the-Sun Road (B)
This morning we're headed into the west side of the park to experience the drama and spectacular scenery on the Going-to-the-Sun Road, which is considered by many to be one of the most scenic drives in the entire US. This engineering marvel traverses 50 miles through the park's wild interior and crosses the Continental Divide. We'll hop on a historic Red Bus Tour. Known affectionately as "Jammers," a name derived from the days when the buses had standard transmissions and the drivers could be heard "jamming" the gears, the buses feature a canvas top that rolls back allowing everyone a commanding view of the scenery. We begin in the Lake McDonald Valley and then head up and over Logan Pass. After a stop at the Continental Divide, we'll head down into the St. Mary Valley. This is a lengthy full-day tour, but is so worth it...after all, this is the reason you come to Glacier National Park!
Friday, 28 August 2020: Many Glacier Boat Tour (B,D)
Today we drive to the east side for a different perspective of Glacier National Park. This is home to the Blackfeet Nation as the reservation runs along the entire eastern border of the park. We're headed to Many Glacier, an enchanting valley full of wildlife, hiking and spectacular scenery. Keep your eyes peeled as this is one of the easiest areas to see mountain goats, moose, bighorn sheep and even bear. Here we'll take a two-lake scenic boat tour. We'll motor across Swiftcurrent Lake and then disembark and walk a short distance (over a steep hill) to the shores of Lake Josephine and board another boat to cruise to the head of Lake Josephine. From here, you can decide whether to hike a bit, or return by boat. Later this afternoon, we'll return to St. Mary, check in to our hotel and enjoy a casual dinner together. Overnight St. Mary - 2 nights
Saturday, 29 August 2020: Free Day in Glacier National Park (B)
Today is all about how you want to spend your time in Glacier. We'll stop in at the large St. Mary Visitor Center so you can make plans to hike if you so choose and determine whether there are any ranger-led programs of interest. The park provides a free hop-on, hop-off shuttle service along the Going-to-the-Sun Road between the St. Mary Visitor Center and the Apgar Visitor Center. Your Tour Leader will have suggestions for how to spend your day and will help pair travelers with similar interests.
Sunday, 30 August 2020: Scenic Raft Trip; Return to Kalispell; Farewell Dinner (B,D)
This morning we head back to the west side of Glacier National Park so that we can enjoy the beauty from another vantage point with a scenic white water rafting trip along along the southern boundary of the park. We'll paddle our way down 8 miles of some of Montana's best white water (Class II-III). At this time of year, the water levels are lower, making for a leisurely, easy rafting experience. Afterward, we return to Kalispell to enjoy a casual dinner together. Overnight Kalispell - 1 night
Monday, 31 August 2020: Return Home (B)
Sadly, our time together has come to an end. Schedule your departure at your convenience. Based on the departure time you provide WTT, your Tour Leader can assist with organizing travelers into small groups so you can ride-share to the airport if you wish.

What clothing and items should I pack for this trip?
In general the temperature will likely be in the mid-70s during the day with lows in the 40s at night. Rain and thunderstorms are possible. The weather in Glacier National Park can change rapidly and vary greatly by elevation with snow possible year round; bring layers and be prepared. We suggest you monitor weather apps before you depart for the most current information. For United States travel weather refer to http://www.weather.gov/.
For This Trip You May Want—
- Comfortable walking/hiking shoes
- Casual clothing that can be easily layered
- Insulated jacket, fleece or wool sweater
- Hat, gloves, sunglasses & sunscreen
- Reusable water bottle
- Inexpensive rain poncho or rain jacket, just in case
- Swimsuit
- Bring what you need to get a good night's sleep, such as ear plugs, white noise generator, sleeping pills, etc. Unfamiliar noises of all types can disrupt your rest.
Good Packing Habits—
- Pack a limited amount of comfortable, casual clothing that layer and coordinate. Your fellow travelers will not mind or even notice – seeing you in the same clothing.
- Bring only two pairs of everyday shoes: one pair of well-broken-in walking shoes, and a second pair that could do double-duty as a walking shoe or a slightly dressy shoe.
- Pare down your beauty regimen to the bare minimum and always pack travel-sized toiletries.
- Pack medication in your carry-on and pack only as much as needed for the duration of your tour plus a few extra days as a precaution.
What are the luggage restrictions for this tour?
On every WTT tour, our policies regarding luggage restrictions are driven by the physical space limitations of the vehicles we use and the requirement that all travelers be able to manage their own belongings without assistance.
- It is best to travel as lightly as possible. Most travelers regret when they have packed too much.
- You may bring one suitcase plus small shoulder bag/day pack/purse.
- Maximum suitcase size: 25-inches in height as measured from the FLOOR to the top of the retracted handle. The small case in a 3-piece luggage set easily meets this requirement and should be plenty roomy for this length of trip.
- Suitcases larger than 25" in height will not fit in the WTT coach; don't bring them.
- The maximum weight of your suitcase should not exceed 30 pounds, as you will need to lift it into the coach luggage compartment.
- You are responsible for managing your own belongings. We expect you to take your belongings from the coach to your room and to bring it back to the coach and load it on days we change hotels. We do not provide luggage pulls; they are not safe and are inconvenient. The possibility of steps exist at most hotel entrances.
What are the phone and internet recommendations for this tour?
As a reminder, cellular service is extremely limited in Glacier National Park and rural parts of Montana.
How much money should I bring on this tour?
Only you can determine the optimum amount of cash to take on tour. When budgeting for out-of-pocket expenses, there are several aspects to consider: the number of meals you are responsible for, the amount of money you like to have on-hand for snacks and drinks, and your individual shopping interests and habits.
- Notify your credit card issuer that you will be traveling and provide dates of travel.
What are the tipping guidelines for this tour?
All tips to local guides during your tour have already been paid on your behalf.
- You are responsible for tipping wait-staff, porters, or other individuals who provide a service to you at the hotel, or other public locations.
- You may want to tip your WTT Tour Leader for an outstanding job. The amount is entirely a personal preference. If you'd like a guideline, consider $8-$10 per day.
