In general this time of year, temperatures in Tanzania are typically in the low 70s, dropping to the mid-50s at night. It's a bit warmer near the beaches in Zanzibar with temperatures in the high 70s.
NOTE:  As of 2019, you are not allowed to bring plastic bags into Tanzania.  They will be confiscated by immigration.  However, plastic "Ziploc Bags" used to carry toiletries, medicine, etc. will be permitted and they should remain in your permanent possession. All visitors are expected to take the "Ziploc Bags" with them when leaving the country.

• Whatever you need to get a good night's sleep, such as ear plugs, white noise generator, sleeping aids, etc. Unfamiliar noises of all types can disrupt your rest.

Do Not Bring—

• Clothing made of delicate or expensive fabrics; the dust will likely ruin them.

Good Packing Habits—

• Pack a limited amount of comfortable, casual clothing that layer and coordinate. Your fellow travelers will not mind – or even notice – seeing you in the same clothing.
• Bring only two pairs of everyday shoes: one pair of well-broken-in walking shoes, and a second pair that could do double-duty as a walking shoe or a slightly dressy shoe.
• Pare down your beauty regimen to the bare minimum and always pack travel-sized toiletries.
• Pack medication in your carry-on and pack only as much as needed for the duration of your tour plus a few extra days as a precaution.

On every WTT tour, our policies regarding luggage restrictions are driven by the physical space limitations of the vehicles we use, the requirement that all travelers be able to manage their own belongings without assistance and the restrictions imposed by other forms of transportation such as small planes.

• You will need to pack lightly in a soft-sided, durable bag due to the nature of transport during this tour. Do not bring hard-sided luggage.
• Internal flight(s) provided during the course of this tour restricts luggage weight to 33lbs. 
• In lieu of a purse, bring a small daypack/backpack for carrying while on safari.
• You are responsible for managing your own belongings.  We expect you to take your belongings from the coach to your room and to bring it back to the coach on days we change hotels.

• Travelers arriving in East Africa may be asked to present a valid Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate.  Please refer to the Center for Disease Control website, CDC site for Tanzania, along with your health care provider for information about vaccines.
• The possibility of contact with mosquitoes carrying Zika, Malaria or Dengue Fever exists in parts of Tanzania. You can significantly reduce the chance of being bitten by wearing protective clothing (long sleeves and pants) and using a quality mosquito repellent. Consumer Reports recommends brands containing 20% Picaridin or 25% DEET as the best defense against all types of mosquitoes and biting insects. Avoid natural or herbal based repellents as they do not provide adequate protection.
  
  

Only you can determine your need to stay in contact while traveling. Internet access is available in most hotels, sometimes for a fee.

• If you are bringing a cell phone, contact your cell phone service provider before departing about adding international calling and/or texting features. Texting internationally is often less expensive than placing a cell phone call.
• Learn how to make an international call BEFORE you leave. Consult your cell provider and check out the web site www.HowtoCallAbroad.com.

To determine the electric plug configuration needed for your destination, refer to www.iec.ch/worldplugs. A universal adapter supports a wide variety of sockets/plugs. You should also check your electronic devices for voltage compatibility. Many countries, such as Tanzania, operate on 220V or 230V, which differs from most of North America. Most of today's electronics (laptops, phone chargers etc.) are multi-voltage and will work worldwide automatically, without a transformer. Consult your owner's manual for further details.

Only you can determine the optimum amount of cash to take on tour. When budgeting for out-of-pocket expenses, there are several aspects to consider:  the number of meals you are responsible for, the amount of money you like to have on-hand for snacks and drinks, and your individual shopping interests and habits. 

• Notify your credit card issuer that you will be traveling and provide dates of travel.
• Protect passport, cash and credit cards with a secure money belt that can be worn under your clothes.
• The official currency used in Tanzania is the Tanzanian Shilling (TZS).
• US Dollars are accepted most places.  Bills must be crisp, untorn and printed after 2006 (and must have the current securty markings, a large portrait of the appropriate US president), or they may be rejected.
• You may want to bring many smaller denominations of USD, particularly crisp $1 bills for many small purchases, snacks and tips.
• Zanzibar airports may require you pay a cash departure tax; we recommend you have USD on hand upon departure.

Tipping of safari guides has not been included as part of this tour package. Tipping is an important part of the safari and trekking experiences in Tanzania, but it is also a matter of personal preference. We recommend budgeting $20 per game drive and we experience 6 games drives as part of this tour.  Consult your Tour Leader if you have questions regarding tipping.

• With the exception of safari guides and drivers, tipping in general in Tanzania is not expected, but certainly appreciated. If you feel that the quality of service you have received is good, then it is customary to leave a tip to show your appreciation to those who have served or you. For something like a taxi you can simply round up your fare to the nearest dollar.
• You may want to tip your WTT Tour Leader for an outstanding job. The amount is entirely a personal preference. If you'd like a guideline, consider $8-$10 per day. 

• Travelers are required to have a valid passport. Your passport MUST be valid a minimum of six months after your return home date, and have at least two consecutive blank pages.
• US citizens entering Tanzania will require a VISA. Travelers from Canada and other countries should check their entry requirements with their consulate. VISA requirements are based on your country of residence.
• WTT will provide VISA Instructions for US citizens shortly after Final Payment is collected and all traveler information has been collected.
• Travelers may be asked to present a valid Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate.
