(C) Santa Fe & Taos in the Fall
Land of Enchantment
New Mexico is known as the "Land of Enchantment" for good reason…stunning scenery, delicious cuisine and history galore. We base ourselves in Santa Fe, which boasts exceptional natural beauty and an extraordinary concentration of arts, music and fine dining. We will explore the surrounding areas including the artist’s enclave of Taos and the well-preserved Bandelier National Monument, an extensive complex of cliff dwellings built by the Anasazi, ancestors of today's Pueblo culture. A full day has been set aside to explore the town of Santa Fe. We conclude our tour in Albuquerque to explore its 300-year-old "Old Town." New Mexico will certainly leave you enchanted!

Itinerary
Friday, 25 September 2020: Arrive Albuquerque Sunport; Travel to Santa Fe; Welcome Dinner (D)
Schedule your flight to arrive in Albuquerque no later than 2:30pm. Once everyone has arrived, we will depart for Santa Fe as a group. Travel time is approximately 45 minutes. We will check in and then gather in the lobby for a orientation meeting before departing for dinner at a local restaurant to get better acquainted. Overnight Santa Fe - 4 nights
Saturday, 26 September 2020: Santa Fe Walking Tour; O’Keeffe Museum; Free Afternoon (B,L)
Santa Fe is a fabulous walking city. It's small enough to navigate easily on foot, with winding streets filled with charming adobe shops, homes and historic buildings as well as contemporary galleries, boutiques and restaurants. We begin our day with a walking tour followed by a visit to the O'Keeffe Museum. One of the most significant artists of the 20th century, Georgia O’Keeffe (1887-1986) was devoted to creating imagery that expressed what she called “the wideness and wonder of the world as I live in it.” After lunch together the remainder of the day is yours to further explore.
Sunday, 27 September 2020: Day Trip to Taos (B,L)
Today we make our way to tiny Taos, known for its art galleries and its beautiful desert scenery. It's a wonderfully unique town to explore and we'll enjoy a casual lunch together here in Taos. We'll also stop briefly at the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge for stellar views into the 650-foot deep chasm. For those who want to walk on the wild side, you can cross this bridge on foot. We return to Santa Fe this evening.
Monday, 28 September 2020: Bandelier National Monument (B,L)
Bandelier National Monument, one of the National Park Service's oldest sites, is our destination this morning. At Bandelier, ancestral Pueblo dwellings are scattered across a landscape of broad mesas and steep-walled canyons. We will take advantage of some of the area's walking trails. A walk on the Main Loop Trail leads through excavated archeological sites on the floor of Frijoles Canyon. Before departing Bandelier, we'll enjoy a picnic lunch and return to Santa Fe this afternoon.
Tuesday, 29 September 2020: Return to Old Town Albuquerque; Farewell Dinner (B,D)
Our trip back to Albuquerque takes us along the Turquoise Trail National Scenic Byway. The scenic and historic area encompasses 15,000 square miles in the heart of central New Mexico, linking Albuquerque and Santa Fe. We return to Albuquerque to enjoy time exploring Old Town before we gather this evening for our Farewell Dinner. Overnight Albuquerque - 1 night
Wednesday, 30 September 2020: Return Home from Albuquerque (B)
Sadly, our time together has come to an end. Based on the departure time you provide WTT, your Tour Leader will organize travelers into small groups so you can ride-share to the airport if you wish.

The activities on this tour are rated as follows:

- 3 Lunches
- 2 Dinners
Selections for the included lunches and dinners will highlight the local cuisine. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dietary requests can be accommodated on this tour with limited selections.
What clothing and items should I pack for this trip?
In general this time of year, Santa Fe & Taos experience daily highs in the low 80s with nighttime temperatures dipping into the low 40s. Santa Fe's high altitude (7,000 feet above sea level) means air is rarefied, thin and dry. It may take about 48 hours to adjust. Staying hydrated helps; be prepared to drink lots of water. We suggest you monitor weather apps before you depart for the most current information. Refer to http://www.weather.gov/.
For This Trip You May Want—
- Smart-casual wear if you’d like to dress up a bit for dinners.
- Swimsuit—the hotel has a hot tub
- Sunscreen, hat and/or sunglasses
- Reusable water bottle
- Lightweight but warm jacket/sweater for the cool mornings and evening.
- Bring what you need to get a good night's sleep, such as ear plugs, white noise generator, sleeping pills, etc. Unfamiliar noises of all types can disrupt your rest.
Good Packing Habits—
- Pack a limited amount of comfortable, casual clothing that layer and coordinate. Your fellow travelers will not mind – or even notice – seeing you in the same clothing.
- Bring only two pairs of everyday shoes: one pair of well-broken-in walking shoes, and a second pair that could do double-duty as a walking shoe or a slightly dressy shoe.
- Pare down your beauty regimen to the bare minimum and always pack travel-sized toiletries.
- Pack medication in your carry-on and pack only as much as needed for the duration of your tour plus a few extra days as a precaution.
What are the luggage restrictions for this tour?
On every WTT tour, our policies regarding luggage restrictions are driven by the physical space limitations of the vehicles we use and the requirement that all travelers be able to manage their own belongings without assistance.
- It is best to travel as lightly as possible. Most travelers regret when they have packed too much.
- You may bring one suitcase plus small shoulder bag/day pack/purse.
- Maximum suitcase size: 25-inches in height as measured from the FLOOR to the top of the retracted handle. The small case in a 3-piece luggage set easily meets this requirement and should be plenty roomy for this length of trip.
- Suitcases larger than 25" in height will not fit in the WTT coach; don't bring them.
- The maximum weight of your suitcase should not exceed 30 pounds, as you will need to lift it into the coach luggage compartment.
- You are responsible for managing your own belongings. We expect you to take your belongings from the coach to your room and to bring it back to the coach and load it on days we change hotels. We do not provide luggage pulls; they are not safe and are inconvenient. The possibility of steps exist at most hotel entrances.
How much money should I bring on this tour?
Only you can determine the optimum amount of cash to take on tour. When budgeting for out-of-pocket expenses, there are several aspects to consider: the number of meals you are responsible for, the amount of money you like to have on-hand for snacks and drinks, and your individual shopping interests and habits.
- Notify your credit card issuer that you will be traveling and provide dates of travel.
- ATMs are typically the best way of obtaining cash; you must know your PIN number for your debit and credit cards in order to use the ATMs.
What are the tipping guidelines for this tour?
All tips to local guides during your tour have already been paid on your behalf.
- You are responsible for tipping wait-staff, porters, or other individuals who provide a service to you at the hotel, or other public locations.
- You may want to tip your WTT Tour Leader for an outstanding job. The amount is entirely a personal preference. If you'd like a guideline, consider $7-$10 per day.
