(C) St. Augustine to Savannah
The South's Best
Meandering along the Gold Coast of Georgia is a feast for the senses: the smell of salt air and the sound of crashing waves, Spanish moss dripping from Live Oaks and the taste of fresh seafood. We begin in St. Augustine, Florida, rich with Spanish colonial history and soft, sandy beaches. No visit here would be complete without a stop at the Fountain of Youth! We then head north to the Golden Isles of Jekyll and St. Simons to take in the beauty and relaxed rhythm of life here. Our last stop is Savannah, known for manicured parks, horse-drawn carriages and antebellum architecture. If you have not seen this little slice of America, you're in for a real treat!

Monday, 20 April 2020: Arrive St. Augustine; St Augustine's Lighthouse; Fountain of Youth (B)
This morning we drive to St. Augustine, which lays claim to being the oldest city in the US. We'll begin our familiarization at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum, where if you're game, you can climb the 219 steps for breathtaking views of Northeast Florida. This afternoon, we'll tour Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park, the original site of the old city. Its 15 waterfront acres are sure to be an enjoyable introduction to our stay in St. Augustine. Overnight St. Augustine - 2 nights
Tuesday, 21 April 2020: Trolley Tour; Free Time; Group Dinner; Sunset Sail (B,D)
Today we explore by trolley. With nearly 500 years of history, St. Augustine is home to some of America's most historic sites, including the 17th-century fortress, Castillo de San Marcos, Fort Matanzas National Monument, the Oldest House dating to Florida's first Spanish period between 1565 to 1763, and the more recent history of railroad tycoon, Henry Flagler in the late 1800s. Early this evening we'll regroup for dinner before we embark on a sunset sail. Keep look out for dolphins and enjoy the sun-drenched views.
Wednesday, 22 April 2020: Travel to Jekyll & St. Simons Islands; Group Lunch (B,L)
Our destination today is the Golden Isles of Georgia, a series of barrier islands along the Atlantic coast. We'll stop on Jekyll Island, famous as a Victorian-era resort of the 19th-century elite. We'll also visit Saint Simons Island, with it's storied lighthouse that was rebuilt in 1872 after the initial one was destroyed in the Civil War. You might want to climb the 129 steps to experience spectacular views and perhaps catch sight of migrating whales. Overnight St. Simons Island - 1 night
Thursday, 23 April 2020: Travel to Savannah; Food Tour; Farewell Dinner (B,D)
We'll gain an introduction to this southern belle of a cotu as we enjoy a food tour of Savannah's famous Historic District. We'll visit several of the city's unique eateries, and sample some of what the locals love best. Once we get the lay of the land, there will be a bit of time this afternoon to explore Savannah further on your own. Much of Savannah's charm lies in meandering through the Historic District's squares. There is certainly no shortage of things to do. Your Tour Leader will have suggestions if you wish. We get together tonight for our Farewell Dinner.

What clothing and items should I pack for this trip?
In general, depending on location, the average temperature during the day is in the upper 70s to low 80s. Temperatures get cooler at night, with lows in upper 50s to mid-60s. Rain is a possibility.
For This Trip You Will Need—
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Sunscreen, hat and sunglasses
- Smart-casual wear if you'd like to dress up a bit for dinners.
- Lightweight but warm jacket/sweater for the cool mornings and evenings or the unusually brisk day.
- Inexpensive rain poncho, just in case
- Swimsuit - 3 out of the 4 hotels have pools.
- Bring what you need to get a good night's sleep, such as ear plugs, white noise generator, sleeping pills, etc. Unfamiliar noises of all types can disrupt your rest.
Good Packing Habits—
- Pack a limited amount of comfortable, casual clothing that layer and coordinate. Your fellow travelers will not mind or even notice – seeing you in the same clothing.
- Bring only two pairs of everyday shoes: one pair of well-broken-in walking shoes, and a second pair that could do double-duty as a walking shoe or a slightly dressy shoe.
- Pare down your beauty regimen to the bare minimum and always pack travel-sized toiletries.
- Pack medication in your carry-on and pack only as much as needed for the duration of your tour plus a few extra days as a precaution.
- As a best practice when traveling, it's recommended to pack hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes.
What are the luggage restrictions for this tour?
On every WTT tour, our policies regarding luggage restrictions are driven by the physical space limitations of the vehicles we use and the requirement that all travelers be able to manage their own belongings without assistance.
- It is best to travel as lightly as possible. Most travelers regret when they have packed too much. You may bring one suitcase plus small shoulder bag/day pack/purse.
- Maximum suitcase size: 25-inches in height as measured from the FLOOR to the top of the retracted handle. The small case in a 3-piece luggage set easily meets this requirement and should be plenty roomy for this length of trip.
- Suitcases larger than 25" in height will not fit in the WTT coach; don't bring them.
- The maximum weight of your suitcase should not exceed 30 pounds, as you will need to lift it into the coach luggage compartment.
- You are responsible for managing your own belongings. We expect you to take your belongings from the coach to your room and to bring it back to the coach and load it on days we change hotels. We do not provide luggage pulls; they are not safe and are inconvenient. The possibility of steps exist at most hotel entrances.
How much money should I bring on this tour?
Only you can determine the optimum amount of cash to take on tour. When budgeting for out-of-pocket expenses, there are several aspects to consider: the number of meals you are responsible for, the amount of money you like to have on-hand for snacks and drinks, and your individual shopping interests and habits.
- Notify your credit card issuer that you will be traveling and provide dates of travel.
- ATMs are typically the best way of obtaining cash; they are found in most towns and cities. You must know your PIN number for your debit and credit cards in order to use the ATMs.
- Be sure to keep cash on hand for cabs, tips, smaller purchases, etc.
What are the tipping guidelines for this tour?
All tips to local guides during your tour have already been paid on your behalf.
- You are responsible for tipping wait-staff, porters, or other individuals who provide a service to you at the hotel, or other public locations.
- You may want to tip your WTT Tour Leader for an outstanding job. The amount is entirely a personal preference. If you'd like a guideline, consider $8 - $10 per day.
