As a solo traveler you are responsible for yourself, your possessions, your physical fitness, and all other aspects related to participation in the WTT tour you have chosen.

Because of this requirement, WTT tours are not suitable for anyone who is physically challenged, walking impaired, or is a slow walker that cannot keep up with the pace of the group.

This tour involves a lot of walking and standing, often on uneven or unpaved surfaces. Heat is also a factor. If you are in doubt as to your ability to meet any of these physical activity requirements, you should not sign up for this trip. The activities on this tour are rated as follows:

• 40% Easy
• 50% Moderate (extensive walking at large sites in heat)
• 10% Strenuous (heat)

Activity levels are subjective and based on the reader's interpretation. Almost everyone overestimates their abilities. Therefore, it is your responsibility to read the itinerary and understand what you are doing throughout the tour.

• Sunglasses, hat, and sunscreen. It can be difficult to find higher SPF sunscreen in Egypt
• Insect repellent - midges can be a problem in the Valley of the Nile

• Cooling neck towel you can get wet if you are sensitive to heat
• Insulated stainless water bottle to more easily stay hydrated
• Swimsuit
• Shorts, tank tops and sandals can be worn in resort areas and highly trafficked tourist areas
• Bring what you need to get a good night's sleep, such as ear plugs, white noise generator, sleeping pills, etc. Unfamiliar noises of all types can disrupt your rest.

• Pack a limited amount of comfortable, casual clothing that layer and coordinate. Your fellow travelers will not mind – or even notice – seeing you in the same clothing.
• Bring only two pairs of everyday shoes: one pair of well-broken-in walking shoes, and a second pair that could do double-duty as a walking shoe or a slightly dressy shoe.
• Pare down your beauty regimen to the bare minimum and always pack travel-sized toiletries
• Pack medication in your carry-on and pack only as much as needed for the duration of your tour plus a few extra days as a precaution.

• It is best to travel as lightly as possible.  Most travelers regret when they have packed too much.
• We strongly recommend you bring only one suitcase. The medium-sized suitcase in a 3-piece luggage should be plenty roomy for this length of trip.
• If you carry a purse, you should be able to wear it across your body, hands-free.
• If you are planning on shopping, have larger items shipped directly to your home. For smaller items you want to carry home, bring a small nylon zippered bag packed in your suitcase to accommodate these purchases.
• You are responsible for managing your own belongings.  We expect you to take your belongings from the coach to your room and to bring it back to the coach on days we change hotels. We do not provide luggage pulls; they are not safe and are inconvenient.
• Steps exist at most hotel entrances. On occasion the coach must unload passengers and luggage some distance from the hotel entrance.
• You must be able to navigate airports, when part of the itinerary, with your belongings without assistance. You will not have time to search for a porter.

Only you can determine your need to stay in contact while traveling. Internet access is available in most hotels, sometimes for a fee.

• If you are bringing a cell phone, contact your cell phone service provider before departing about adding international calling and/or texting features.  Texting internationally is often less expensive than placing a cell phone call.
• Learn how to make an international call BEFORE you leave. Consult your cell provider and check out the web site www.HowtoCallAbroad.com.

You may need to purchase a universal adapter which supports a wide variety of sockets/plugs. You should also check your electronic devices for voltage compatibility. Many countries, including Egypt, operate on 220V or 230V, which differs from most of North America. Most of today's electronics (laptops, phone chargers etc.) are multi-voltage and will work worldwide automatically, without a transformer. Consult your owner's manual for further details.

Only you can determine the optimum amount of cash to take on tour. When budgeting for out-of-pocket expenses, there are several aspects to consider:  the number of meals you are responsible for, the amount of money you like to have on-hand for snacks and drinks, and your individual shopping interests and habits. 

• Notify your credit card issuer that you will be traveling and provide dates of travel.
• Credit cards are accepted in most locations but small purchases often require local currency. Many banks charge a currency exchange fee (anywhere from 3%-8%) on most transactions. Check with your bank. There are credit cards that impose no foreign transaction fees.
• Debit cards are very useful for cash advances. ATMs are typically the best way of obtaining cash; they are found in most airports and cities. However, there are no guarantees that your credit or debit cards will actually work overseas.  You must know your PIN number for your debit card to use ATMs.
• Exchange $200-$300 into local local currency so you have cash upon arrival.  This can be done at the airport upon arrival into Cairo. Easy access to ATM machines is often problematic. 
• Small purchases often require local currency.
• Have small bills as many historic sites charge extra for the privilege of taking photos.
• The official currency used in Egypt is Egyptian pound.
• Entrance Visa is $25USD cash obtainable at the airport.
• Most bathrooms will charge 5 Egyptian Pounds
• Most tourist sites will charge a fee to use a camera, but you can use a cell phone without the flash for easier. 

• Tipping is common and expected throughout Egypt as it comprises much of the take-home pay of those who work in the hospitality industry.
• While with the group, tipping is handled for you on the tour with the exception of the Nile Cruise. 
• Travelers are responsible for their own tipping aboard the Nile Cruise. Typically, tips are collected at the end of the cruise. Your Tour Leader will coordinate the collection of tips from each room and place in the tip container on the last day. (Suggested amount is $30 - $40 per person for the entire cruise).
• You are responsible for tipping wait-staff, porters, or other individuals who provide a personal service to you at the hotel or at other public locations.
• Tipping in Egypt can be difficult to understand as checks add a service charge and VAT or Value Added Tax.  When tipping we suggest you tip 10% of the total bill, including the service charge and the VAT tax.
• You may want to tip your WTT Tour Leader for an outstanding job.  The amount is entirely a personal preference.  If you'd like a guideline, consider $8-$10 per day.

• Travelers are required to have a valid passport.
• Passport cannot expire less than 6 months after your tour concludes.
• US and Canadian citizens entering Egypt must obtain a 30-day visa at the airport upon arrival in Cairo. Cost of the visa at time of publication is $25 (subject to change).
• You can also obtain an "e-visa" prior to arrival. Information regarding this will be communicated shortly after final payment.
• Travelers carrying passports from other countries should check entry requirements with their consulate.
