Tuesday, August 11: Arrive Montreal The WTT tour leader will be at the hotel to greet you and make suggestions as to how you can best enjoy your time should you arrive earlier in the day. We will meet as a group for the first time this evening at 6:00pm, make introductions, and then have dinner together. (D)
Wednesday, August 12: Morning tour of Montreal with afternoon free. After breakfast at our hotel, we will start our morning with a tour of the city. Montreal is the heartland of French - Canadian society and the unofficial commercial and cultural capital of French Canada. The largest French-speaking city after Paris, France, Montreal shines with the vitality and excitement of a European capital city. Known for its excellent restaurants, French Theatre and the Arts, and Educational Institutions, Montreal provides an amazing glimpse into the Old World of French North America. Views include Sanctuary Notre Dame, Place Ville-Marie, the Olympic Stadium, Mount Royal and St. Joseph's Oratory. After our tour, you are free to explore the city. You may want to consider re-visiting Notre Dame, or spend some time in the underground city. Montreal is a very cosmopolitan city with something always going on. Enjoy a free evening in Montreal to experience the wonderful food and nightlife the city is known for. (B)
Thursday, August 13: Travel by train to Quebec City, Afternoon tour. This morning we have an early departure for Quebec City by train. Upon arrival we will take a tour of the areas around Quebec City. Travel back in time to rural Québec and enjoy the many traditional villages of rural Québec. In Sainte-Annede- Beaupré, we will visit the world famous Shrine and stop at the Montmorency Falls (1 1/2 times higher than Niagara Falls). We will be treated to a visit to the Island of Orléans, discovered by Jacques Cartier in 1535, where the picturesque village of Sainte-Pétronille, with its 19th century rural atmosphere, waits to be rediscovered again. Our hotel for this evening and tomorrow is inside the walled portion of Old Quebec, with everything you will want to see within easy walking distance from the hotel. (B)
Friday, August 14: Morning walking tour of Quebec City and afternoon free. Quebec City. What a lovely place! The old walled portion of the city is filled with street performers, artists, and shops. Our day will start with a walking tour inside the walled portion of the city. Highlights will include views of the Old and New Cities, the Old Port, the Citadel, Place Royale, rue Champlain (the oldest shopping quarter in North America), the Artist's Quarter, the Boardwalk and much more. In historic Place Royale, over 400 years of history will unfold before your eyes. This is where Jacques Cartier and Signeur de Champlain built the beginnings of "La Nouvelle France". Walk on cobble stone pedestrian streets, browse through the oldest shopping street in North America, visit the Artist's Quarter or take a leisurely stroll along the Boardwalk overlooking the St. Lawrence River. After our tour you have the remainder of the morning and afternoon free to explore on your own. Quebec City is one of the loveliest cities in North America and is reminiscent of old Europe. Soak up the atmosphere. It’s almost magical. We’ll meet again as a group at 6:30pm for our farewell dinner. (B, D)
Saturday, August 15: Fly Home from Quebec City. This morning enjoy a leisurely morning. Make your return flight at your convenience. The WTT tour leader will assist in coordinating ride-sharing to the airport. (B) |
