Kayaking & Lodge Stay
God's Pocket, British Columbia
(with an optional stay in Vancouver)

July 5 - 11, 2009

Between the north end of Vancouver Island and the British Columbia mainland is the Queen Charlotte Strait.  This area is widely regarded as a kayaker's paradise.

Hundreds of islands make up this stunning archipelago, home to whales, seals, porpoises, and bald eagles along with some of the lowest rainfall and lightest winds on the British Columbia coast. This, plus the opportunity to stay in a remote rustic resort with all the amenities, makes it the ideal trip for both novice and experienced sea kayakers who want to combine paddling in the wilderness and ample opportunities to see wildlife. No kayaking experience necessary. We use very stable, and safe, sea kayaks.

The charm of this trip is... you get to choose whether you want to go out on every kayak excursion or skip one and just enjoy the lodge. A staff of 5 serves the group:  2 lodge hosts, a full time chef, and 2 licensed sea kayak/naturalist guides.

Jacques Cousteau proclaimed this area the world's best cold water dive site due to it's prolific and diverse wildlife. From our kayaks we will have the above-water view this diversity attracts such as: minke and humpback whales, Dall's porpoises, Stellar's sea lions, harbor seals, sea otters, and often orcas.

Sunday, July 12: Optional City Tour

This morning consider taking an optional city tour. Vancouver is British Columbia’s largest city and the major port for all of western Canada. It is surrounded almost completely by water, with snowcapped mountains rising vertically in the background.  Stanley Park is recognized as one of the great parks of the world.  It is an evergreen oasis of 1,000 acres that abounds in wildlife, gardens and majestic cedar, hemlock and fir trees.  The Vancouver Aquarium is one of the most popular attractions in the Park.  Historic Gastown will take you back to cobble-stoned streets, mews, courtyards, and Victorian architecture set against a backdrop of mountains.

There are lots and lots of things to do in Vancouver! For the ultimate shopping experience, step outside the hotel onto Robson Street where you'll find everything from small boutique shops to larger high-end fashion chains. Stop for dim-sum in one of the many restaurants in Chinatown or visit Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden, an exquisite reproduction of a Ming Dynasty landscape or do exactly what you want with your day. (B)

Monday, July 13: Optional day trip to Victoria

No visit to this area is complete without a visit to Victoria. It's a "long day" but well worth it. For those interested in this optional day trip to Victoria, we'll get up and travel to the terminal where we will catch the early ferry to Victoria. The day is yours until we return late in the afternoon.

While in Victoria be sure to visit Butchart Gardens, a landmark on the island. The Empress Hotel that sits overlooking the harbor is a great place to have high tea in the afternoon. Like everything "British?"...then take a stroll through the streets and enjoy the wonderful shops. You will find more than enough things to do and explore to fill your day; you'll wonder where the time went! (B)

Tuesday, 14 July: Return Home

Return home today at your convenience remembering that check-out is at 11:00am. The WTT tour leader will help coordinate ride-shares to the airport. (B)
